showing them what's possible.

We were honored to be part of Career Day at the NC Mountain Research Station, where Haywood County's 8th graders got a glimpse into the many career paths.

Getting to hear from Dr. Rejo, Dr. Natalie, and meet Gladys, the Black Angus who is a wonderful temperament research cow and very vital to this community, was such a special part of the day. 🐄

We are incredibly fortunate to have this resource right here in our community.

Agriculture is more than a career—it’s a part of our heritage, our community, and our future. 👨‍🌾

If we want these trades and traditions to continue, we have to introduce the next generation to them. 🌾

Join us for the October WNC Beef Cattle Commission meeting on Thursday, October 15, at the WNC Regional Livestock Center.

Dr. Natalie Trantham, the new veterinarian at Country Lane Animal Hospital in Clyde, will be our guest speaker. She will be discussing New World screwworm and what livestock producers need to know about identification, prevention, and protecting their animals.

Meal will be served at 6:00 PM for $15, followed by the educational program at 6:30 PM.

Through MeatSuite.com — a platform administered by NC Choices, which is an initiative of N.C. Cooperative Extension and the Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) — North Carolina shoppers are connecting with local farmers to fill their freezers.

“We have seen a 30% increase in inquiries, store visits and sales the last month,” said Beth Rhyne, co-owner of R&B Rhyne Farms in Angier, North Carolina . “The greatest request has been for locally sourced beef. Our bulk beef inquiries and sales have gone up significantly. Customers want to know exactly where their meat comes from.”

Meet the latest member of the cat family—proposed name Leopardus tilcayo, a feline smaller than an average housecat, covered in leopard-like spots, and native to Bolivia's Yungas forest ecoregion. What began as a call from a wildlife sanctuary about a "weird cat" led to years of study and the eventual identification of the first new cat species in over a century. Now, scientists hope the methods that led to the discovery could help find more new cat species around the world.
