It’s important to be specific when it comes to police and military K-9 training.

Here’s a quick look at some of the most important terms when it comes to K-9 tasks and what they can perform.

Scent Detection - Signaling to detectable odors like narcotics, explosives, etc

Tracking - Tracking a scent over a distance, often used to find missing persons or fleeing suspects in certain incidents

Apprehension - Searching for and detaining (biting) a violent criminal until the handler can make the arrest

Tracking is one of the most advanced skills a K-9 can learn. At CDS we work through each step of the training process to make sure the K-9 is prepared for any situation.

Whether our dogs are working to find a missing person or track down a suspect, the basics of tracking training remain the same. Here's a quick look at how we do just that.

Canine Detection Services would like to congratulate Officer Martin and Deputy Ruckart for successfully completing their 8 week basic handler course. They both put in a ton of work, and we are very proud of them and what they’ve accomplished. There is a ton of hours spent developing these dogs and preparing them for the real world. CDS is grateful to each of the agencies for the opportunity and entrusting us with that responsibility!

Strength, Agility, Drive, and Obedience are just some of the top reasons our dogs get chosen by the top police and military organizations time and time again.

Whether we are working with new handlers in our K-9 handler course, training dogs to work at a new facility, or even training a K-9 for a civilian, we provide the highest-quality dogs with the highest-quality training.
