🐾 👑 Puppy Spotlight: Meet Panela! 👑 🐾

This adorable 7-week old Shiba Inu puppy came in for her very first visit last week, and quickly made herself right at home! 💕

Panela discovered two new favorite things:
🧀 Squeeze cheese ( which made getting her vaccines an absolute breeze!)
👑 Being told she's a princess ( because, honestly, she is!)

A few other things Panela loves:
🌟Getting attention from everyone she meets
🌟Exploring new places
🌟Showing off her puppy charm

Things Panela does not love:
🚫Being told "no" (especially when she is going after any cords or wires)
🚫Having her naptime interrupted
🚫Not being the center of attention

Panela kept us all entertained with her personality and endless confidence. We have a feeling this little princess is going to have her family wrapped around her paw in no time! 🐾💕

🐾Feature Friday: Meet Stephanie!🐾

If you have visted WCVC over the last 14 years, chances are you've meet Stephanie! As one of our Registered Veterinary Technicians, she brings experience, compassion, and great sense of humor to every patient she works with.

While dogs and cats make up much of her day, one of Stephanie's favorite animals she has worked with has been a Bearded Dragon. But she has a soft spot for Bernese Mountain Dogs and Australian Shepards.

When she's not working at the clinic, she is busy by her own furry crew which consists of :

🐶Odie: A Bernese Mountain Dog who is equal parts loveable and goofy.

🧦Oreo: A senior kitty who with an unsual hobby: carrying socks around the house.

😸Peanut: The younger cat who has made it very clear that Stephanie's husband is the favorite and will always cuddle him.

💡Her advice for pet owners? " Socialize your puppy early and often. Safely introduce them to different people, children, and pets. Positive experiences go a long way toward creating confident, comfortable pets so consider stopping by the clinic for a happy visit."

Thank you, Stephanie, for 14 years of caring for our paitents and being such an important part of the WCVC family! 💜

🐱MYTH VS FACT: Cat Addition with Eloise!

Many cat owners have questions about vet visits, vaccinations, and diagnostic testing, so lets seperate myth from fact!

❌MYTH: My cat is always indoors so they don't need vaccines.
✅FACT: Even though your cats may be indoors they can be exposed to diseases through open doors, windows, house guests, and other pets. Vaccinations help protect them from preventable illnesses.

❌MYTH: My cat doesn't need bloodwork, they are always healthy.
✅FACT: Routine bloodwork can reveal underlying diaseases such as diabetes, kidney disease , thyroid disorders, and other health concerns before noticeable symtoms develop. Early detection often means more treatment options and better outcomes.

❌MYTH: My cat is purring alot so they are happy.
✅FACT: Just because your cat is purring alot doesn't mean they are always content. It can mean that they are stressed and might be in pain. Cat's are very stoic creatures and love to hide when they are in pain so this is one thing we take into account.

🐾Preventive care - including wellness exams, vaccinations, and routine bloodwork - is one of the best investments you can make for your cat's long-term health.

🎆Next month, this coming Fourth of July, marks the 250th anniversary of the United States, which means many communities are planning bigger celebrations. Fireworks are going to be bigger and louder than normal this year.

While festivities are exciting for some people, they can be overwhelming for our pets. If your dog or cat experiences anxiety during the firework season, now is the time to prepare. Signs can include shaking, pacing, panting, hiding, vocalizing, or attempting to escape.

The good news is, there are medications and management strategies avaiable that can help keep your pet calm and comfortable during the holiday.

📞Contact our clinic (515-987-4552) before the holiday weekend approaches to discuss options for your pet. The sooner we plan, the btter we can help your furry family member enjoy a safer, less stressful Independence Day.

🐾Let's make this historic Fourth of July a happy one for every member of the family - including our four-legged ones!

⚕️Wellness Wednesday : The Three L's

Here's why veterinarians take the Three L's seriously:

🦠Lepto ( Leptospirosis) - Is a bacterial disease spread through contaminated water, soil, or wildlife urine. It can affect both pets and humans, making prevention especially important. Vaccination can protect your your dog and your family.

🕷️Lyme Disease - This is spread by ticks bites, Lyme disease can cause fever, joint pain, limping, low energy, and kidney complications in dogs. Year-round tick prevention and regular screening are the key to keeping pets safe - especially active outdoor dogs.

🐱Feline Leukemia (FeLV) - FeLV is a contagious virus spread between cats through close contact- grooming, shared bowls, or bite wounds. Feline Leukemia weakens the immune system and can lead to serious illness over time. Testing and vaccinating kittens and outdoor are important for your pets health.

💙Prevention care saves lives, that is why it is important to talk to your veterinary team about vaccines, testing, and parasite prevention tailored to your pet's lifestyle.

Call (515-987-4552) today if you would like to schedule your pet's vaccines or have any questions regarding these vaccines. 📞
