Ballydídean rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes farmed animals who are unwanted, neglected, or abused. Through tours and community education, we give people the chance to make friends with animals they typically only meet on their dinner plate, giving them an opportunity to rethink their relationship with farmed animals.

Our friends in the snag will soon be joined by 2 bat boxes and a circle of climbing predator defense around the tree. We used to have a handful of bats back in the barn but unfortunately they got displaced by pigeons. The pigeons are cute but they don't help with the bug population! And I miss having bats in the air as I do night loop. I hope these new shelters will bring bats back to the sanctuary!

We don't get a lot of photos back in the pig woods, because we're just not there a lot. But here's Lisa being an adorable forest pig while we were in the process of rotating the sheep from the Peaceful Pasture to the Winter Pasture where they'll get shorn this weekend!

Look at all the birds! Cow flies are after mucous, so why are the birds on the cows backs instead of their faces? It's because cows have a defensive behavior for the flies. They swing their heads and throw spit up onto their backs to attract the flies somewhere other than their faces. And bonus, it helps their symbiotic bird friends eat the flies more easily.
