This week is Vet Tech Appreciation Week!! ❤️❤️
(But we use this week to also appreciate our receptionists)😀
We have an amazing team of dedicated veterinary nurses here at Countryside that bust their little booties to ensure that your pet receives the best and most gentle care possible. These ladies are the equivalent of human nurses but have the additional chore of knowing how to deliver that skill to several species (that can't talk, direct us, or tell us how they feel) from a 1 lb teeny kitten to the 140 lb Great Dane to the feisty raccoon. These girls are your vet's right hand, radiology techs, phlebotomists and lab techs, anesthesiologists, dental hygienists, CNA, kennel tech, educators, and gaugers of cuteness. They snuggle your hospitalized pet and try their best to be a suitable stand-in until they can get handed back to their owners.
And then we also would not get anywhere without our amazing veterinary receptionists. These ladies are always lending a helping hand to the nurses and are pretty darn good at holding their own as assistants (Sam just doesn't like the "gross" stuff. Jess's primary job is in human medicine which is waaayy more gross 😜). These girls are the smiling face that greets you and often become secondary therapists, lending a listening ear and comfort. They ensure the days are scheduled smoothly for our doctors and that clients are heard.
These girls on this team hold compassion beyond measure for their patients (and our human clients), work without breaks most days, celebrate our patient "wins" and shoulder the crushing "lows" alongside our clients.
This field can be incredibly difficult to work in with an average burnout rate of over 50% within the first 5 years. This field can be physically and mentally exhausting, beating up the body and soul and has one of the highest su***de rates. These ladies have to safely restrain even the largest of pets making their knees and backs the average age of a 90-yr old by the time they hit 30. These ladies are on an emotional roller coaster through the day, going from one office call where their heart is breaking for the client that is saying goodbye to their beloved furry companion (this is personal for us, too....we get attached to our patients!) and straight into a room with a brand-new puppy all full of smiles and laughter. This chronic up and down, day after day, along with the strain of striving for the best outcome for all patients, leads to "compassion fatigue." Yet they show up each and every day for our patients and clients, because they love their job.
So- please join me this week in appreciating our staff that wants nothing more than to go above and beyond for this clinic and all it encompasses.....including you. Let them know you appreciate them!
Lyzz, Jenny, Jennifer, Anna, Emily, Jamie, Sam, and Jessica- you are adored. Without you, we are nothing.
