Hello- We would like to post something to hopefully clear up some misconceptions and miscommunications that have been happening in regards to the animals that come in to our shelter. Everyone seems to know that we have a small contract back with the City of Clinton. Even though it does not include everything that the public would like it to, this is a start. Our shelter is full and at capacity. The attached pics can attest to that and ANYONE is welcome to come in and visit and tour at any time. Please keep in mind we have other contracts with other entities and animals come in from those as well.
While we have helped out other shelters in the past (just as they have helped us) we HAVE NOT done an animal transfer or had animals transported up here from the South since Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Their shelter was under water and we took 17 dogs that were going to be euthanized as they had no where to house them. If we take dogs from other facilities we almost always do a swap (some of our animals for some of their animals). We want them to have the best exposure and the best chance of adoption. We are absolutely helping the folks of our city within the constraints that we have from the contract and the space that we have here at the shelter.
In the month of August alone we took 9 abuse/neglect cases. These are separate from bite quarantines and other instances that ACO/PD bring to us. We also took in 16 owner surrenders. We average 5-8 phone calls per day asking to surrender animals. We take what we can and what we have space for. Right now our waiting list is 87 animals long that's over 10 pages of people asking to surrender. Please remember we cannot take every animal. Owners have to take accountability too and need to make an effort to find a home for them as well. The shelter should be their last resort and not the first call.
Of course our hope for the future is that we can get back to a full contract with the City of Clinton, but for now we have to work with what we can. No one is more frustrated then us, animal care is extremely expensive and we have to keep the doors open. Please be patient and understanding with our staff who may have to tell you how long our list is, none of this is their fault. Thank you for your patience and understanding!!!

❤️Sterling Update❤️
Sterling adopted 8/18/25 is a such a. ray of sunshine :) he is a vocal happy little guy who loves flopping over to be pet. Sterling is officially a cowboy now that he moved to Texas with us! He enjoys playing with his brother Roger and loves to keep us company while we use our laptops.

❤️Pippin (formerly Garret) Update❤️
I am thankful to have found Pippin (formerly named Garret) at the Clinton Humane Society a year and a half ago! He is the happiest kitty, and absolutely loves his sister Inti. He makes our home so full and happy ❤️

❤️Sadie & Winston Update❤️
We adopted Sadie almost 3 years ago and Winston 1 year ago, Sadie just turned 3 a few weeks ago and Winston is going to turn in about a week, we are very glad that we adopted these 2 big babies,they are best friends, sometimes when one leaves the house for just a few minutes and comes back they both act like they haven't seen each other in a very long time and they get so excited to see the other one, they are both able to stay out of their kennel now while we are gone and at night, they don't need supervised while inside, they love going out with us to pet friendly places they are both learning and getting better at their commands, I could probably leave Sadie off leash and not hooked up to anything while we are in the backyard, but sometimes she'll see something but back there on her line she has a very good recall, and are very close to working with a leash not attached to anything, Winston is starting to get the concept of the recall, he'd explore places if he had a chance,learned to sit by the door whenever we are about to open it to go for a walk,they are both very amazing dogs,and they get along very great together,they do great with our kitties, once in awhile they'll try to play with the. But they'll leave them alone,they absolutely love the outdoors, Winston loves to be Mr social at the dog park, Sadie might interact a little bit with dogs she's just meeting but other than that she usually leaves them alone and does her own thing

We would like to send a special shout out to our APO/ACO Officer Jaci Schumacher for her outstanding work in the animal welfare field. The shelter sponsored her through the Citizens Police Academy so we have her trading cards available at the shelter for anyone that would like one. Jaci we know it can be a thankless job just like the jobs at the shelter, but please know that we are so thankful for you and appreciate every thing you do every single day!!!❤️🐾🐶

We call them the Harry Potter boys, there are 4 of them altogether....Harry Potter, Dumbledore, Neville and Draco. They all have been here over a year, they were only around a month old when they came in. They are some of the sweetest boys you will ever meet!!! If you're looking for a new best friend...or 2..or 3, or hey maybe even 4, these boys are a GREAT choice!! Let's find these purr-fect boys a beautiful home, they have waited long enough😻

❤️Willow (formerly Mustang Sally) Update❤️
I'm sending an update on Mustang Sally (Willow).Tomorrow will be a week that I brought her home and she's doing great. She loves to play with small fuzzy balls that she fetches then brings them back, like dogs do. Another favorite is sitting out on our screened in porch to watch the birds.

❤️Puddle & Phantom (formerly Oona & Zooli) Update❤️

Both puddle & phantom have strong personalities that fit right in with our previous cats & they all love each other.
Phantom is fearless & loves to snuggle (on her own time) and pace back and forth for pets! Phantom is a go getter, and will do just about anything for treats!
Puddle’s favorite stop is right in your chest (awake or asleep) and has the cutest chirps. They both LOVE to play especially with moms’ hair ties and visit moms work at the nursing home in Morrison to get extra snuggles 💗
