🐾❤️ FROM FERAL KITTEN TO TRUSTING FRIEND: MEET STERLING! ❤️🐾
Some of the biggest victories in pet sitting are the quietest. 🥹
Near Manson on Lake Chelan, Sterling’s amazing parents discovered a feral mama cat and her four kittens. Instead of walking away, they rescued the whole family, arranged vaccinations, spaying/neutering, deworming, and treatment for ringworm, then found loving homes for all five. ❤️
But those feral beginnings made Sterling cautious around new people. When we first began caring for him, his favorite place to greet us was...
Under the bed. 😂
So we didn't rush him. We spoke softly, respected his space, and let him decide when he was ready.
And then one day, there he was. Out from under the bed, coming to see us. 🥹💕
That may sound small, but for a shy cat, it's everything.
He chose to trust us. And earning that trust is one of the greatest rewards of what we do. ❤️
We're grateful to Sterling's wonderful parents for giving an entire feline family a second chance, and for trusting us with their special boy.

Sometimes, listening doesn’t involve words.

Years ago, Tricia was caring for a rescue dog several times a week. He was a pretty reserved fellow, and affection wasn’t something he gave away easily.

One day, Tricia was standing at the kitchen sink filling his water bowl when he quietly came over and leaned against her leg.

That was different.

Tricia stopped what she was doing, looked down at him, and said, “Tell me what’s going on?”

She listened.

Not for words, of course, but for the change in a dog she had come to know. She told his person what had happened and that something just didn’t seem right.

A veterinary visit followed. The news was heartbreaking: he was terminally ill.

Because his person knew, they were able to take time away from work and spend those last precious weeks together. Later, they thanked Tricia for noticing what their dog had been trying to say.

Animals communicate with us all the time. A change in appetite. A tucked tail. An unusual hesitation at the door. Or sometimes something as simple as a dog who never leans against you suddenly leaning in.

Sometimes they tell us things without making a sound. Our job is to listen.
