Charley's Strays

Charley's Strays Charley's Strays is a small, private, 501c3 non-profit, no-kill dog shelter /refuge located in Clinton. ME. Charley's Strays is licensed to hold 33 dogs.

However, we try to limit ourselves to 20-25 to make sure that each dog gets enough attention. We have heated indoor/outdoor kennels where the dogs stay during the night and bad weather, and also large outdoor pens (pictured above), where they can hang out during the day in nice weather. Additionally, then entire property is fenced in, so the dogs get time to run and play outside of pens/kennels. W

e have a caretaker who lives on site, so the dogs have lots of one-on-one attention and someone is here every night as well as during the days. Due to the fact that someone lives on site so it is actually a home for a human, as well as dogs, we ask that you call / email the shelter to make an appointment before coming by. We are not a traditional shelter with operating hours, and loads of volunteers and staff. We do have some very nice, adoptable dogs and some dogs that will stay with us forever due to behavior or health issues. We need adopters for the adoptable dogs and sponsors for the pups that may not be able to go to regular homes. This page is maintained by a volunteer who lives elsewhere:)

Scooby and Alice Rose are brother and sister Jack Russell/ Chihuahua mixes that are looking for a home together or separately. We'd love to see them go home together but understand that that might not be possible. They are a bit overweight at 20 lbs each.

Beautiful Snow White, and her brother, Grumpy, arrived at our shelter transferred from our rescue partner in the South. Snow White is 1 year old.
Grumpy was recently adopted and now Snow White is alone for the first time in her life. She would love a canine brother from another mother in her new home. Please come and meet her!
