As everyone is aware, our general obedience program accommodates almost all breeds. However, exceptions apply to Pitbulls, Rottweilers, and Great Danes. We don’t work with these breeds.

For our retriever program, we will now exclusively accept Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers. Although other breeds possibly possess equal capabilities, they typically require more time in our program, making it challenging to communicate the necessary effort and investment time to the general public. Consequently, we will no longer accept them unless they have completed our obedience program and demonstrated a desire and aptitude for retriever work during their time with us. In such cases, we can discuss options, acknowledging that the timeline will likely be longer than for a Labrador Retriever.

They say boys will be boys. Mr. Charlie is all boy for sure. He is not in our retriever program, but most certainly identifies as being! He is enjoying these beautiful summer days at Duck Down Retrievers.

Couple updates on Duck Down Retrievers policies that will be strictly enforced with zero exceptions..

1. A friendly reminder we are visitation and pickup/drop off by appointment only. No drop ins whatsoever. We are not a storefront…

2. Any dogs requiring daily medication and or vitamins/herbal supplements will be subject to a $5 dollar a day fee starting today forth 06/01/2026.. Regardless of just boarding, general obedience, or retrieving.

3. All messages- text or voicemails will be responded to within 24 hours or less. Please be patient as we are out in the field working hard for you guys!

4. We have the incredible privilege of training many dogs. If your dog doesn’t make it on our social media pages - AS MANY DON’T- it has nothing to do with current status or outcomes or how much we enjoyed working with your particular pup! 

5. We absolutely will not give weekly baths to anyone in our program. We believe that a dog should only be bathed monthly or bi weekly at most for their skin, ears, immunity, and general health.

We appreciate the shoutout.
