Yall may remember that guarding space was a huge deal for these two!!! Look at how good Janet is doing with them. She’s not scared to deal with the hard problems and she’s seeing big changes because of it!

Videos like this are everything as a trainer and this whole family continues to wow me!

That’s a fulfilled dog! Nice job Ernie and Adam!

I just love videos like this because it’s just letting dogs be themselves! Everyone needs to find their version of this :-)

Just getting started!

I’ve heard bad trainers are scared to show their work, here’s some of mine.

My hope with this post is maybe we can all learn from each other.

Consultation at clients house the dog put teeth on the back of my leg, it was my fault. The owner was doing a great job of managing her, I wanted to try something, she barely touched the back of my leg.

Day one of her being at my place she barked almost the whole day and wanted me no where near her. When I opened the crate she backed off quite a bit but still had it in her to let me know if she didn’t like something.

This is her on day 5. After 4 days of working together. Keep in mind she is here because walks are a nightmare, tough to handle, barking the whole time and firing off at strangers all the time. No guests can come over without her barking for hours on end and the possibility of someone getting bit if put in the wrong situation.

I haven’t worked on any of that. And in fact I wouldn’t have, the whole time she was here. Instead I spend my time playing games with her and learning how we can communicate to each other properly. I’ve used no tools other than this rope slip lead.

We are besties and she’s totally understanding whats going on here. I’ve never once punished her for anything, if she wanted to bite me for something I let her(I had bite gloves on first few days). We understand and trust each other, that’s it.

From here I will work outside on a long line a bunch and then afterwards my clients have unlimited private lessons with me. In those lessons I go to their house or a park or whatever is needed for the rest of those dogs life, anytime I am needed and for as long as I am needed. This is not the only way to do training but it is how I have found works best for me and my clients during this current time of my life.

Training is a life long process with ups and downs, a “practice” so to speak.

1 analogy for the road

What does “fixed” mean? Or when is training complete for a trainer? Is an alcoholic “fixed” after it doesn’t drink for a year? What about a dog that hasn’t bit anyone in a year? I think we are forever working to get better and I shape my pract

This was day 3, shes gotten so playful and lots more sass with me. I love it. True personality is coming out!

I had a thought on my walk today, in high school I used to cheat all the time. If you got a 90% and you spent the time figuring out the work or if you got a 90% and your good friend let you copy off him so we could go do dumb s**t after class together. Either way you got a 90%.

Now we all know those a vastly different things and one will lead to growth and the other is fairly empty as far as the knowledge of the subject goes.

So for our dogs is it better to let them make decisions, sort things out and then give them feedback in the form of loaded markers or to just give them a command to follow to just get by/through something? If both have the same outcome of our dog not attacking someone, are they the same thing?

I want my dog to be better than me so I’ll go with the growth!

This sweet girl is here for the next 2 weeks, she’s been using her bark and teeth to communicate when shes unsure or uncomfortable. Can’t wait to be good friends with her!

This is so amazing! These two have been in dozens of fights around the house. Serious fights that they have scars from and have lost teeth from. They have bloodied each other up really bad so many times. But their owners Janet and Franz are making big strides. What impresses me most about this family is how calm they stay and how they don’t get discouraged, even though they have so much going on in their lives. They have trusted me and the process from day one and this is why these 2, who guard space all the time with each other, are starting to learn to live in tandem and cutting that s**t out. They are becoming closer than ever. I remember growing up with 2 older brothers, it was a lot the same as Luna and Nalas relationship. If we weren’t kicking each others ass we were besties. I love these updates so much because they understand the task at hand and their expectations are in the right place. This is allowing the sky to be the limit for these 2. I can’t wait to do more with them. I adore this whole family so much and feel so much joy to have the opportunity to work with them. They make being a trainer so worth it!!
