Diabetes is a disease caused by a lack of insulin, the hormone that regulates how sugar is absorbed and used by the cells within the body. It is most often seen in dogs between the ages of 5 and 7, with female dogs being more susceptible than males. Every dog is unique, but keeping an eye out for irregularities in your dog’s behavior is key to determining if your dog may be at risk. Watch out for extreme thirst, frequent urination, notable exhaustion, and lower than normal activity, and obesity. Polydactyl cats are born with extra toes, most often on their front paws. It’s a genetic trait and is usually completely harmless, just an extra dose of cute. That said, those extra toes can come with a few care considerations. More toes means more nails to trim, and sometimes they grow at different angles or are easier to snag if not maintained. Most polydactyl cats live totally normal, healthy lives, but regular paw checks and nail trims are important to keep them comfortable.
