Happy Labor Day Weekend!! HAAL will be closed to the public today, Sunday Sept. 6, 2026 so our volunteers can spend some time enjoying the holiday. Each year our volunteers give hundreds of hours of themselves to take care of the cats and the shelter. We couldn’t do what we do without their sacrifice of time, energy, and love.

In honor of National Black Cat Appreciation day we would like to spotlight Andrea. If you are looking for a cat that wants to always be by you side and follow you through the house Andrea is your girl. Andrea would like to be the only cat. She tends to bond with one person and loves to give hugs . Stop and meet Andrea you may just find your “heart cat”.

Happy international cat day! Today we share Henry, a nearly 3 year old ginger male. He is a leg man who might wrap his paws around your ankles, to show he loves you of course. He tolerates some cats but would probably do best on his own. Oh and we suspect he "speaks" Spanish!

Look at these two gorgeous cats!! Meet Sir Richard Pennington III and Lief. These boys weren’t looking too good after joining us and were quickly diagnosed with wet form FIP . As little as 6 years ago these boys would not have survived. But they were treated with GS44 and are thriving . They are currently completing their 3 month post treatment observation period and will be up for adoption in the fall. They have a sister (short haired ) who did not get sick but has been with them through the entire process. We are hoping that there is a family out there that might consider taking all three. They are very bonded with each other . They are friendly, playful and just so sweet.

Five years ago we treated our first cat for FIP. At the time the treatment could only be acquired through a network of cat loving people. Watching a cat days away from death start to show signs of recovery within 24 hours of the first injection was an amazing experience . Each day brought another positive change. The fluid in his belly started recede. His energy level increased and he started to eat, and eat, and eat. This treatment was expensive, but it was a life saver. After 84 days of injections, followed by 84 days of observation the cat was deemed cured of FIP, a disease that was 100% fatal. Because of those experiences the miracle treatment, known as GS44, became available as a compounded medication that your vet can now prescribe and purchase . This year we have successfully treated three cats for FIP. Rum (pictured) was one of those cats. She had dry form FIP, which is often difficult to diagnose. Looking at her yesterday relaxed and happy made me so proud of how far we have come in the treatment of this once deadly disease.

Hi everyone!! Just a reminder to be on the look out for the t-shirt/ sweatshirt SCAM that seems to be popping up again. These are not authorized by HAAL. They are trying to make money off of our name and organization. We delete and report them when we see them.
