🐱💙 Happy Cat Month! 💙🐱

September is all about celebrating our feline friends!

Cats may be independent, but they still need regular veterinary care to stay happy and healthy. Annual wellness exams, vaccines, parasite prevention, dental care, and keeping an eye on changes in behavior can all help your cat live their best nine lives. 🐾

And of course, Cat Month is also a great excuse to provide extra treats, favorite toys, cozy nap spots, and approximately 47,000 additional compliments. 😸

🐾 Furbaby Friday Feature 🐾

This week we're featuring Remy Faith, a sweet 9-year-old Schnauzer/Poodle mix! 💕🐶

Remy came in for her wellness exam and vaccines, but her family also wanted to have her ears checked after they started bothering her over the past few days. She had also been licking her paws, which can be a sign of allergies.

An ear cytology showed a combination of bacteria and yeast in both ears, so her ears were cleaned and she went home with medication to help clear things up. She also received her vaccines, a 4DX Heartworm+ test (which came back negative, yay!🎉), and Cytopoint to help manage her allergies. 🐾

Remy was such a good girl for her visit, and we're hoping she's feeling more comfortable and itch-free soon! 💙

Today is a great reminder to appreciate the incredible wildlife we share our planet with.

From the squirrels in our backyards to the wildlife we encounter right here in Northeast Ohio, wild animals play an important role in our ecosystem. 🐢🦅🦝

If you encounter wildlife that appears injured or sick, remember that wild animals have very different needs than our pets. Avoid handling them unless absolutely necessary and contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for guidance. 🌿🐾 Happy National Holistic Pet Day!

Taking care of our pets means looking at the whole picture—not just one part of their health.

A healthy pet needs a healthy **mind, body, and spirit.** 💙

🩺 **Body:** Regular veterinary care, preventive medicine, balanced nutrition, exercise, and dental care all play an important role in keeping pets physically healthy.

🧠 **Mind:** Mental stimulation, enrichment, training, play, and opportunities to explore help keep pets engaged and happy.

❤️ **Spirit:** Love, companionship, comfort, and time spent with their people are just as important to their overall well-being.

From a nutritious diet and daily exercise to a favorite toy, a cozy nap spot, or simply spending quality time together, the little things all add up.

🐾 Furbaby Friday Feature 🐾

This week, we’re featuring Rupert, an approximately 2-year-old Bull Terrier who has been through quite a journey. ❤️

Rupert was found as a stray at the end of July in very poor condition and was brought into our care through Mutts in a Rut Rescue (MIAR). When he arrived, he was severely underweight, weak, and facing several medical challenges, including megaesophagus.

Megaesophagus is a condition in which the esophagus—the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach—becomes enlarged and does not move food normally into the stomach. Because of this, dogs with megaesophagus may have difficulty keeping food and water down and are at increased risk of aspiration pneumonia if material is inhaled into the lungs.

One important part of Rupert’s supportive care is feeding him in a Bailey Chair. This specially designed chair helps keep him upright during meals and for a period afterward, allowing gravity to assist food as it travels toward his stomach. Rupert’s care team carefully monitors his meals, positioning, and overall health to help give him the best chance at recovery.

Rupert has now spent almost a month with us, receiving round-the-clock supportive care, nutritious meals, and lots (and lots!) of TLC. He has faced some significant hurdles along the way, but through it all, he has remained a sweet, gentle boy who has captured the hearts of everyone who has cared for him. 🥹🐾

We’re so proud of how far Rupert has come and grateful to MIAR for giving this special boy the chance he deserves. His journey isn’t over yet, but he’s surrounded by people rooting for him every step of the way.

Keep going, Rupert! We can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds for you. 💙

🌈🐾 Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day

Today, we remember the beloved pets who may no longer be by our side, but will always have a place in our hearts.

This video is a montage honoring the pets of our team members who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Our pets become family. They are there for the ordinary moments, the big milestones, the difficult days, and all the little moments in between. When we lose them, their absence can leave a space that is impossible to fill.

So when we say we understand, we truly do. We know the love, the memories, and the heartbreak that come with saying goodbye to a beloved pet.

But the love they gave us never disappears. ❤️

Today, we remember the silly habits, favorite toys, special routines, and countless memories that made each of them uniquely special.

🐶💙 Happy International Dog Day!

Today we're celebrating the dogs who make our lives better in a thousand different ways.

The ones who greet us like we've been gone for years even when it was only five minutes. The ones who somehow know when we need a little extra comfort. The ones who make us laugh, get us outside, keep us company, and remind us to enjoy the simple things.

From couch potatoes to adventure buddies, every dog has their own special way of becoming part of the family.

Give your dog an extra belly rub, take them on their favorite walk, or simply spend a little extra time together today.

Because life really is better with a dog by your side. 🐾❤️

🐾🩵 August is National Itchy Pet Awareness Month!

A little scratching every now and then is normal. But if your pet is constantly scratching, licking, chewing, rubbing, or shaking their head, it's worth paying attention.

Itchy skin can have many different causes, including:
🌿 Environmental allergies
🍗 Food allergies
🦟 Fleas and other parasites
🦠 Skin infections
👂 Ear infections
🐾 Other underlying skin conditions

And sometimes what looks like "just allergies" can actually be something else entirely.

If your pet is spending more time scratching than playing, sleeping, or cuddling, talk with our veterinary team. Finding the underlying cause is the first step toward helping them feel comfortable again.

Because your pet shouldn't have to choose between being itchy and being happy. 💙
