A day in the life at our ranch! Having a senior dog sanctuary is much more than “saving a dog and feeding it.” These pics are what occurred yesterday alone. A gate and a fence panel had to be replaced due to rot. We also wrap all exterior panels with “snake wire” which helps prevent unwanted creatures from entering a kennel. Paver stones were added in a kennel that gets muddy when it rains. Dead and dying trees near kennels have to be cut down. The a/c in our main kennel went out and had to be immediately replaced with a new one. Cot cover replacements are done on the regular. Once the frame on a cot becomes unfixable, we are gradually replacing them with heavy duty weight graded kuranda beds and those on average are about $150 a piece. Until then, we replace the covers. 10 dogs were provided medication. Pictured is Olive for cuteness. She’s one of our senior hospice pups.

Two bonded seniors were recently taken to an overcrowded shelter as an owner surrender. Sadly, their elderly male owner passed away and the elderly female owner could no longer care for them. They were separated upon intake with basically no chances of making it out alive. 💔

When we heard about this bonded pair, we decided we could not allow their story to end like that. With the help of Rescue Texas and Tracey Cline, we saved this pair from being euthanized the very morning we put a plea out for them to come to our ranch. We found out after the fact they had been placed on that day’s euthanasia list. 😢🙏🏻

Prince and Princess, (names they’ve known their whole life) are now safe but clearly lacked proper care for quite some time. From overgrown and embedded nails, a lacerated toe and a swollen, bleeding foot, a large mass to skin conditions, these seniors require quite a bit of medical care. And they will get it as they deserve it. They are already on better nutrition and have begun several medications.

As much as these two have already been through with their medical and physical conditions and losing the family and home they’ve known for 9 years, they are both such sweet, affectionate pups.

If you are touched by their hard luck story as we were and would like to contribute to their medical expenses, both Rescue Texas and Roxy’s K9 Ranch would be so very grateful.

Please use any of the following options below to donate for Prince and Princess so they can live their remaining years, happy and healthy at our senior dog sanctuary.

A little late posting, but wanted to share two more happy updates! Lucy, the sweet kitty that adopted Roxy’s K9 Ranch as her temp home, and Bear, of the Bunny and Bear Samoyed duo, were both adopted in late May, into their forever homes. We are so happy for them both! Happy tails Lucy and Bear! Thanks to Tails in Transit for finding their new furever families.

Our boy Hank had his day at the vet recently. You may recall, Hank was saved from the euth list at the Cleveland pound in March and became a permanent resident of our senior ranch. He had most of his vaccines on board already from the pound but we wanted to get him thoroughly checked, f***l tested and the required rabies vaccine as well. He got a bit grumpy with the vet with a low growl while wagging his tail. Since it’s a guess which end do you trust (head or tail), we chose to put a muzzle on to prevent any possible bites. Once the muzzle was off, he was back to his happy go lucky self. He had a good checkup but is slightly over weight. He needs to lose about 5 pounds or so to be at a healthier weight for his age. Hank has been a lot of fun and loves to play with his toys and get lots of loving!🐾🫶🏻🐾

Look at this one! Our Remi is officially adopted! He was the longest foster we’ve ever had at the ranch! He was with us for over 2 years and 2 months! But guess what? His Iowa foster, named Ron, decided to adopt him after fostering him the last 2 1/2 months. We couldn’t be happier for him! They seem like a great match! Thanks to Tails in Transit for finding Remi such a great furever home!♥️🐾♥️

Another happy pupdate! Roxie has been officially adopted by her Iowa fosters. Roxie was originally fostered by Dennis and Mary Buffo in the neighborhood with some assistance from Roxy’s K9 Ranch (her namesake). We are so happy for that sweet girl. It sounds like a perfect fit. Also thanks to Tails in Transit for finding this great new family for her! Happy tails Roxie girl!

Happy pupdate!
It’s Mazie! This baby is not loved at all! 😂 From severe neglect and abuse from a cruelty case to thriving and now has her own family that loves her so much! Mazie’s new home is a result of a foster fail because after just a few days, her Iowa fosters decided they wanted her to be a permanent member of their family. She now has 4 human siblings to play with too! We are so happy to see this! This is the happy ending we always hope to get!

Update on Chip:
X-rays show two spinal lesions (advanced arthritis) which most likely is causing him a lot of pain. He also has slight elevation in WBCs but nothing else found to cause an infection. All organs are in good working order and f***l is clean. He was given a pain shot and put on antibiotics as a precaution. We are also giving him anti-inflammatory/pain meds orally. He seems much better already and back to eating and his “normal” behavior/activity. Unfortunately, these are just changes and things we see with our seniors sometimes. We do all we can to keep them happy and comfortable for as long as possible.🙏🏻🐾🫶🏻

Our Chip boy needs prayers. Something is wrong with him and is currently having tests done to try and determine what’s going on. He was fine at bedtime last night but not fine at breakfast this morning. He was shaking, weak, salivating, had an increased respiration rate and uninterested in eating. He was taken to the vet this morning despite coincidentally he was scheduled this afternoon for his yearly checkup. After initial assessment, he also has a fever, increased heart rate and tenderness in his abdomen. X-rays taken but only showed some sort of lesion on spine indicating arthritic changes. Currently waiting on bloodwork results next. He’s a sweet old boy and was also saved from the euthanasia list at BARC in April 2023. He’s a 3 year resident at our senior dog ranch.🙏🏻🐾🙏🏻
