Today we’re talking about the training collar—one of the most effective tools when it’s fitted and used correctly.
✨ A properly fitted training collar should sit high on your dog’s neck, just behind the ears, and be snug enough that it doesn’t slide down while still allowing for a comfortable fit. When it’s positioned correctly, communication is clearer and more consistent for your dog.
The great thing about this tool is that it can work for dogs of all sizes. But remember: a training collar should always be introduced and used under the guidance of a professional trainer. Proper education ensures you’re communicating effectively while making your dog’s safety and well-being the top priority.
Every dog is different, and the tool is only as good as the person using it. Train with purpose, prioritize safety, and set your pup up for success. 🐶💙

Meet our “wild child,” Jaxson! 🐾
Jaxson came to Village Way Dog Training over a year ago, and he’s made incredible progress since then. Wanda has seen huge improvements in his obedience, confidence, and overall calmness, and she’s excited to continue watching him grow.
Watching dogs like Jaxson transform is exactly why we love what we do. We can’t wait to see what’s next for this handsome guy! ❤️🐶

We know the pinch collar can be controversial—but when it’s properly fitted and used by an experienced trainer, it’s simply a communication tool. Like any training tool, it’s only as effective as the hands using it.
At VillageWay, we don’t choose methods based on trends or opinions. We choose methods that make physical and psychological sense to the dog. Clear communication creates clarity, confidence, and trust—not confusion.
Our goal is never to intimidate or overpower a dog. It’s to help them understand what’s being asked so they can make better choices and confidently navigate the world alongside their owner.
Every dog is different. Every training plan is individualized. The tool is never the focus—the relationship is.

🐾 Equipment Check with Felton, Master Trainer & Owner of Villageway Dog Training.
One of the most overlooked tools in dog training? A quality leather leash.
A well-made leather leash provides better grip, clear communication, durability, and comfort for both you and your dog. Training isn’t just about techniques—it’s about having the right equipment to set your dog up for success.
This week, Felton breaks down why investing in quality gear can make a significant difference in your training journey.

Off-leash training starts ON leash. 🐕
If your dog can’t reliably respond with a leash attached, taking it off won’t magically improve communication. Build the skills, earn the freedom.
