I don’t always shave Doodles… sometimes their owners understand it is a labor of love and educate themselves on how to properly maintain their hair at home. Us groomers get a bad wrap with these dogs because of the lack of understand. We don’t want to make your dog look bad but we don’t want to hurt them either. Matt splitting can be painful for a dog. Their hair matts very easily and needs brushed extensively EVERY SINGLE DAY.
In our world, this is a large “designer” mix breed that demands so much time and funds. Breeders have been known to tell new owners how they are “low maintenance” and any other ridiculous claim to get money. Any dog you cross with a poodle IS high maintenance. 50lbs and up can cost you anywhere from $75-$175 every 4-6 weeks depending on the quality of the coat. If you don’t maintain at home, that can come with price increases and/or a shaved to the skin dog. Your choice. Not ours.
We as professionals know what is best for your dog and will not deliberately put your dog through discomfort for your liking. We love these babies and want to see them happy, healthy and matt free.
