In a new peer-reviewed review published in Veterinary Research Communications, researchers highlighted studies showing that both turmeric🫚 (Curcuma longa) and rosemary🌿 (Rosmarinus officinalis) slowed the growth of canine mammary cancer cells🦠 on their own. But when combined, the effects were even stronger.

Researchers found rosemary appeared to help more curcumin, turmeric’s most studied active compound, accumulate inside cancer cells. The combination also triggered greater cancer cell death and activated additional pathways involved in cellular self-destruction.

The research highlights something fascinating: sometimes natural compounds work better together than they do alone.

Published in Veterinary Research Communications, a respected peer-reviewed veterinary journal, this review examined the latest evidence on plant compounds being studied for mammary cancer in dogs🐕 and cats🐈.

Can we help find Duke his forever home? 🐾❤️

Today is Duke’s 477th day. 💔 That is 477 mornings of Duke waking up in a kennel, looking through the bars, and wondering if today is finally the day someone chooses him. It’s 477 nights of him falling asleep to the sound of a noisy shelter, still holding onto this heartbreakingly sweet, steady optimism that his person is out there. At 4 years and 4 months old, he has spent way too much of his life just waiting for a chance to show someone how big his heart is.

When you take him outside, all that shelter stress just melts away. Duke is the definition of simple joys. Give him a random stick he finds in the grass, and it’s suddenly the greatest treasure on earth. He will turn that single stick into an entire afternoon of pure, unadulterated fun, completely content in his own little world. And if you throw a tennis ball for him? He will chase it down like it’s the absolute best gift he’s ever received.

But as much as he loves to play, his favorite thing is just being near you. When the excitement winds down, Duke will lean his whole body into yours, soaking up every ounce of affection you’re willing to give. In those quiet moments, when he’s cuddling close and looking up at you, you can see exactly what he’s dreaming of—a real home where he can finally let his guard down and just belong.

Because Duke has so much love to give, he wants to keep it all for you. He needs to be the only pet in the home and would do best without tiny kiddos running around. It’s not because he isn’t sweet; it’s just because he wants to be your one and only loyal sidekick. He doesn't want to share his humans—he just wants to dedicate his whole life to making you happy. After 477 days, don't you think he's waited long enough to be somebody's everything?

I hope you're all having a great weekend! It's nice to finally have a break from all the rain we've been getting lately.

I wanted to make this post and pin it to the top of the page because it's important.

Fixed Fur Good was created to help owners in our community get their dogs spayed and neutered when they otherwise couldn't afford it. While I do occasionally help with rescue situations and puppies, the primary focus of this program is reducing unwanted litters and helping keep dogs out of overcrowded shelters.

We're only a few weeks in, and thanks to all of you, we already have 9 dogs scheduled for June and 1 dog scheduled for July! ❤️🐾

Here's how you can help:

This cute baby is believed to have been dumped in Cleveland. He is currently with a family who is caring for him but can not keep him. Guessed to be about 6 months old. Good with kids, cats and other dogs. Looking for a loving family! 🐾❤️
