On July 24, 2002, at 9:00AM Eastside Veterinary Hospital opened its doors for the very first time. We were seeing 6-8 patients a day back then. I had one employee. We had one small exam room and a tiny surgery room with old floor standing surgery lights. A lot has changed in 19 years. I am grateful to all of our wonderful clients and to my staff for helping to take Eastside from those first days to where we are now. Thank you for 19 great years.

Many of our clients know about all the telephone issues we had with Spectrum when we moved to our new location. The issue that continues is that all of our outgoing calls will appear on your caller ID with a 407 exchange. To be sure you get our calls, we recommend that you add the following telephone numbers to your contact information for us. This way you will get our calls and messages.
407-554-1470

With things here being as busy as they are, we are often asked if we have considered bringing on another veterinarian to help us. The short answer is, “Yes, we have.” The problem is that there is a national shortage of veterinarians. As of March 2021, there are 30 veterinary clinics in Central Florida looking for doctors. Estimates nationally indicate 6000+ more jobs than there are veterinarians to fill them. We’ve been looking for another veterinarian for almost two years. So, please be patient. We are doing our best to help as many as we can.

The Better Business Bureau has reported a significant increase in online pet scams since the start of the pandemic. The scams involve people paying hundreds of dollars to purchase a pet online, only to find out the pet never existed. The BBB has gotten hundreds on complaints about puppy scams. Like buying anything else online be careful.

With the Coronavirus pandemic and estimates of well over 100,000 deaths expected we are trying to be vigilant to reduce risks for our staff and clients. We ask that only one person come in with animals unless more are needed to control or carry them. We appreciate the importance of social distancing and ask all of our clients to adhere to that as much as possible. If we become infected we might have to close and we do not want that. Please be patient. We are trying to help as many of our clients and patients as we can. We have altered our scheduling to try to keep our lobby from getting crowded to stay within social distancing guidelines. Thank you for your support. We want to be here for you.

I had a client some time ago tell me that to be sure there was no confusion between her family’ towels and the ones she used for her dog, she bought a set of towels for the dog that are nothing like any other towel in the house. For her dog, she got a color that she would never use for her family. This way, no one used the wash cloth she had for her dog.

With the path and timing Dorian being as unpredictable as any hurricane we are unsure of what next week will bring. If the weather is bad and police not wanting people on the road we may not be open. Like every hurricane I’ve seen since moving to Florida, we will have to wait and see. We will be open as soon after the storm as we can.

We apologize to all of you having trouble calling us. We have spent countless hours on the phone with Spectrum trying to get this problem fixed. Once again, they are telling us the problem is fixed. Please let us know if you have trouble getting through or if you hear any odd messages when you try to call us. They have said they fixed it before.
Thank you.
