Our little chocolate drops are absolute perfection! Mama is sore, but in really good spirits! 😍

Fun fact: There was only a 1.6% chance of all 3 of these babies being liver sables! 🤯

After a very long night/day, Mirri girl needed an emergency c-section for a puppy that was a bit too big. Mama and all 3 puppies are doing well and are home now ❤️

Apparently she was the size of a barge for show as there were only 3 total 😅

Ms. Chunky and Unimpressed (AKA Mirri) has officially made it to her due date. Though she seems ready to no longer be roughly the size of a barge, she is still holding the babies hostage.

I cannot wait to meet them though and have sanitized their area at least 8 times in the last 2 days! 😅😍

Formally introducing our Star Wars keeper puppy: Ahsoka. Registered name: “Clear Ridge’s Solace beyond Sorrow” 🐾

She is integrating into our lives and the pack so well. She’s such a lovely little pup ❤️

Her genetic testing is completed (Embark & PD test through Orivet) & I will be getting her PennHip & OFA prelims done in a couple short months to see if she has the potential to stay within our program (I have my fingers crossed, because I adore this pup!).

Jedi (now Goose 🪿) went home yesterday with a family we absolutely adore that now has 3 pups from us! All 3 shepherds in the photo are from us and I appreciate them for trusting me more than once to add to their family 😍

Edit: He has now been spoken for from a family that has two of our other pups ❤️❤️

Our last pup standing! Jedi is vetted, microchipped, and ready for his next adventure! He had been spoken for and is now looking due to no fault of his own. Please DM me if interested. ❤️

He deserves the best home and I’d love for him to go somewhere that will send me regular updates on his adventures! 🐾

“How do you get German Shepherds with blue eyes?”

It’s a question I’ve gotten a lot over the last few days.

Usually it comes with curiosity. Sometimes confusion. And, every now and then, an accusation:

“German Shepherds don’t have blue eyes. They must be mixed.”

Spoiler: they’re not. 😉

And honestly, I’m absolutely here for the questions. I love having the opportunity to talk about my dogs, genetics, and why they look the way they do.

So… how do my puppies have blue eyes if they aren’t mixed?

The dilute gene.

My blue-eyed puppies have inherited two copies of the recessive dilute gene (dd)—one from each parent. This gene dilutes the pigment produced by the dog.

If the puppy’s base color is black, the dilution produces what is commonly called blue or blue-gray.

If the puppy’s base color is liver, the result is Isabella/lilac.

And the dilution doesn’t just affect the coat. It can also affect the pigment of the nose, eye rims, paw pads, and eyes, which is why these puppies can have those striking blue or blue-gray eyes as babies.

And no, sadly, those gorgeous blue eyes aren’t permanent. 🥲

As the puppies mature, their eye color gradually changes, typically transitioning toward amber/golden tones. The blue can linger for quite a while depending on the individual puppy, but eventually those baby-blue eyes give way to that beautiful adult coloring.

So if you see one of my blue-eyed German Shepherd puppies and think, “Wait… how is that possible?”

Genetics. Not a secret mixed-breed parent. Promise! 🙃

And honestly, I think the science behind it is just as interesting as the puppies themselves.

I also want to be clear that I’m not claiming dilute coloring is the breed standard—it isn’t, and I know that. These puppies are dilute because the gene exists within the lines I work with, and I believe transparency and education are important when discussing genetics in breeding.

But a color does not make a dog.

I breed primarily for structure, temperament, health, and purpose. My dogs undergo health testing through OFA, PennHIP, Embark, and Paw Print Genetics/Orivet, because pretty puppies are nice—but healthy, sound, stable dogs are what matter most to me.

The pretty colors?

Those are just a bonus. 🥰

These dogs are also AKC registered and, despite being a non-standard color, are eligible to participate in AKC-sanctioned events other than conformation. A dilute German Shepherd can still train, work, compete, earn titles, and accomplish just as much as a traditionally colored German Shepherd.

And believe me, I adore the traditional colors, too. ❤️

At the end of the day, whether a Clear Ridge puppy grows up black and tan, sable, black, liver, blue, or Isabella, the color is only one small piece of the dog.

What matters to me is the dog underneath it.🐾
