Took little miss Daisy to Holistic Mountain Market today! I swear that one magnet is a D and not a B lol. She did really well, especially considering she spent the first bit of her life in a room with her mom and siblings so everything is new to her. Very proud of how she's coming out of her shell and exploring the world!

Personal independence day post incoming 🇺🇸

This is my dad's side of the family. See the man in the maroon shirt, front and center and asleep? That was my Papa, my dad's dad. Many years ago, in a small country in South America called Guyana, my Papa made a very bold and brave decision. He wanted to relocate his family to the US. Him, his wife, their five kids.
It wasn't easy. Coming in legally takes time, and you have to remember that you're not only dealing with the American government. You're dealing with the government of wherever you're coming from, in this case the Guyanese government. The government of Guyana wouldnt allow anyone to leave with more than the equivalent of $20 USD each, so that's what they had to do.
With help from family and friends, they thrived here. And because my Papa made that one decision so long ago, I also get to thrive here with DreamRun. The rest of my family in this picture gets to thrive here.
I'm very proud of my Guyanese heritage. But I'm also very proud to be an American. It breaks my heart how many people here have no idea how good it is here. Before he passed, I once asked my Papa if he missed Guyana and wanted to go back. He very quickly said "no, I'm very happy here."

Happy independence day. Happy 250 years of freedom. 🇺🇸

Daisy (right) is with me for a two week boot camp. She was a little shy, but my resident Hero (left) got her out of her shell and playing so well! They're besties now. Sometimes another dog is the answer.

When people ask me about finding a reputable breeder, one of the first things I say is "if they're willing to sell you two puppies, RUN."
It means they're either inexperienced and don't know what they're doing, or they know and just don't care because they care more about money.

I've seen a few cases of littermate syndrome. They either become codependent and can't ever be separated (imagine what will happen if one needs emergency vet care and has to stay overnight) or they become randomly aggressive with one another and periodically try to kill each other. And once it happens, good luck trying to fix it.

Two puppies is actually 4x the work to prevent this. I've only seen a couple of people who actually put in the work and were able to prevent it.

Littermate Syndrome is a real, heartbreaking, and completely avoidable behavioral issue that happens when two puppies under 6 months are raised together.

It can lead to:
❌ Severe jealousy & fights (sometimes dangerous)
❌ Extreme separation anxiety & destruction
❌ Poor training & social skills
❌ Stunted emotional growth

We know—it sounds sweet to give them a built-in buddy. But raising two pups at once can actually hurt their development and your bond with them. Even many professional dog trainers avoid it.

✅ The safest choice? Adopt one puppy at a time, at least 6–12 months apart, so each can bond with you, learn independence, and thrive.
