Time to turn off your lights! We’re currently in peak fall bird migration, and unfortunately, our intakes are reflecting that. We’re getting an influx of migratory birds that have struck windows, like this beautiful Black-throated Green Warbler. She is thankfully healing well and we expect her to be back on her migration journey very soon.

If you want to help wildlife, now is the time! Many birds migrate under the cover of darkness, so artificial lighting easily disorients them, which disrupts their migratory path and often causes window collisions. If you take action and reduce your lighting, you could be saving lives.

- Turn off or reduce unnecessary outdoor lighting from dusk until dawn.
- Close curtains or blinds at night to limit indoor light spilling outside.
- Encourage your neighbors, family, and friends to do the same.

If you’re willing to do your part, please consider signing the pledge for Lights Out Nashville. They're working toward a pledge goal to present to Nashville's local government to show how many people in our community support making a safer city for migrating birds. Every signature helps show that Nashville cares about protecting wildlife!

My mine have lots of nicknames.

It probably isn't the name on their vet records 😹

Scientists say the strange nicknames many people give their pets may be rooted in the same kinds of language patterns used in baby talk, family jokes, and playful speech. Researchers have found that pet names often evolve through rhymes, repeated sounds, puns, and affectionate nonsense words.
Experts say these nicknames can help strengthen social bonds and reflect the increasingly important role pets play in family life. In many cases, the names become part of a household's own private language — even if no one else understands how "Bella" somehow became "Beefy Noodles."

It is that time of year when I go on vacation. I will be out of town 10/17-10/24. Please speak to your pets, they are on notice - nobody is allowed to get sick, nobody is allowed to get hurt. Just in case Little Angels is a vet urgent care clinic. Have a good week!!

One of the eight lions had been living in a cage inside a jeans factory.

That lion was called Cata. Seven more had been seized or found abandoned at circuses, private homes and small zoos around Mexico. Many had been mistreated.

Pat Craig's Wild Animal Sanctuary offered to take them. It covers 720 acres in Keenesburg, on the Colorado plains.

Mexico's environmental agency arranged the trip and, for the first time, Mexico's navy took part. On August 26, 2015, two of its transport planes carried the lions north with two lynxes, a puma and a coyote aboard. The Associated Press reported that the coyote had been used in witchcraft ceremonies.

All 12 animals reached the sanctuary that same day.

Theirs was the second flight of an airlift meant to move about two dozen animals to Colorado. Nine tigers were still waiting in Mexico for a plane.
