Today begins Vet Tech Week

We are SO grateful for our Vet Techs and Vet Assistants for all they do to care for your pets. They play a HUGE part in caring for our patients every day at Eastview by supporting our doctors & educating our owners. They do everything from taking temperatures and recording patient's weight, to assisting in surgery, drawing blood, taking xrays and even cleaning up the messes left behind. They support pet owners in some of their toughest moments and have an amazing understanding of the emotions that the people who love their pets go through as they walk through our doors.

We certainly could not do this without them showing up to work each day. Please be sure to wish them a Happy Vet Tech week and share your appreciation for all that they do ❤️

Sophie gave us a good reminder today about why we have to be careful with some dog's favorite treats: bones! 🦴

Sophie came to see us this morning with a bone stuck around her lower jaw. Dr. Atwell was able to safely sedate her and get the bone removed.

First, a big thank-you to our clients for being patient with us this morning while we took care of Sophie's urgent visit. We appreciate you giving us the time to get her taken care of!

As glad as we are that Sophie is doing okay, this isn't the first time we've seen this happen, and we wanted to share her story to help prevent it from happening to another dog.

Bones may seem like a harmless treat, but they can cause some pretty serious problems, including:
🦷 Broken or fractured teeth
🩹 Cuts and injuries inside the mouth
🦴 Bones getting stuck around the lower jaw
🚨 Choking, intestinal blockages, and damage to the digestive tract from swallowed bone fragments

If your dog loves to chew, consider safer alternatives like appropriately sized chew toys or dental chews recommended by your veterinarian. Avoid chews that are so hard they can't be bent or dented, as these can damage teeth, too.

And if you ever find a bone stuck around your dog's jaw, don't try to force it off. Give your veterinarian a call for help.

We're happy we could help Sophie this morning, and we hope sharing her experience helps keep another pup out of a similar situation! ❤️

Even though we're heading into fall, we all know how unpredictable Tennessee weather can be! One day may feel like fall, and the next can bring us right back to summer temperatures. Until the weather has cooled down for good, please continue to be vigilant about your pet's safety.
💧 Keep plenty of fresh water available
🌳 Provide shade and opportunities to cool down
🚗 Never leave your pet unattended in a vehicle
🐾 Be mindful of hot pavement
☀️ Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day
🚨 Know the signs of heat-related illness and seek veterinary care immediately if your pet begins showing symptoms
