🐾 OCTOBER IS NATIONAL PITBULL AWARENESS MONTH 🐾

Let’s talk about the dogs everyone has an opinion about, but far too few people actually understand.

“Pitbulls” aren’t even one single breed. The label is routinely slapped onto several different breeds and mixed-breed dogs, lumping them all together based on appearance alone. And that label? It can be enough for a dog to be judged before they ever get a chance to prove who they are.

Our pitties are some of the most misunderstood, unfairly judged, and mistreated dogs out there. They’re blamed for their breed, feared for their appearance, and overlooked for nothing more than the way they look.

They deserve the same chance, the same love, and the same respect as every other dog. PERIOD.

At Mikaela’s Mutt Motel, we see the individuals behind the labels. The goofy ones. The couch potatoes. The Velcro babies. The ones who just want someone to finally choose them.

JACKIE. IS. HOME. 😭❤️

Monday, we were reminding everyone that Jackie is still a baby who deserves a family of her own. Today, we get to tell you that SHE HAS ONE. 🥹

This little girl doesn’t have to grow up in rescue. She gets to grow up knowing what it means to be someone’s whole world, with a family to love her through every stage of life.

Jackie, your forever started, sweet girl. And we couldn’t be happier for you. ❤️

🐾 Hi, I’m Hippo, and I have a little update for you ❤️

I’m feeling a little better every day. My belly is finally starting to feel full, and I’m learning that maybe, just maybe, people can be safe. I’m starting to understand that the hands reaching for me aren’t here to hurt me. They’re here to help me. And I’m finally beginning to feel just how much I’m loved.

I have some skin issues, but what else would you expect when you’ve spent your whole life being neglected? My little body has some healing to do, and my heart has some catching up to do, too.

I have trauma to overcome. I might need a little extra patience, a little extra love, and someone willing to show me that the world isn’t always a scary place.

But I promise you, I have SO much love left to give.

I’m just a puppy. I should’ve always known what it felt like to have a full belly, a safe place to sleep, and someone who loves me unconditionally. I’m learning those things now, and I can’t wait to learn what it feels like to belong to someone.

I don’t need someone to see what’s wrong with me. I need someone to see what I could become when I’m finally given the chance.

Because one day, I’m going to be the light of someone’s WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE. Maybe even the reason they smile a little bigger when they walk through the door.

I just need someone to give me that chance. 🥹❤️

SHE’S HOME. 😭❤️

Winnie, our long-timer, HW-positive girl, has officially been ADOPTED!

When we pulled Winnie, the whole reason we said yes was because one of our fosters immediately fell in love with her. And you know what we did? WE RAN WITH IT. 🥹

We saw the potential for something beautiful, and now that love has turned into a FOREVER HOME.

Heartworm-positive dogs deserve a chance, too. The long timers deserve a chance. The ones who need a little extra time, care, and patience deserve a chance.

And Winnie just got hers. 🐾

After everything, this girl gets to start her next chapter with someone who already knew she was worth it. THAT is what rescue is about.

Congratulations, Winnie. You’re finally HOME. ❤️🏡

He’s still just a puppy. A BABY. And he’s growing up in rescue while he waits for someone to choose him. 💔

He should be learning the routines of his forever home, making memories with his family, and figuring out what it means to be somebody’s whole world. Instead, he’s still waiting for his turn.

We know there’s a lot going on at MMM right now, especially with the 34 new dogs who need us. But our current babies still deserve their chance, too.

Spade deserves to grow up in a home, not a rescue. 🐾

Y’ALL. 😭❤️ THE AMAZON BOXES HAVE TAKEN OVER.

We have donations piled up, supplies sorted and organized, and enough cardboard to apparently start a bonfire at my house. 😂 The fosters are already talking about it, so I guess we’re one step away from a neighborhood gathering.

AND THIS ISN’T EVEN HALF OF WHAT WAS DELIVERED. 🥹

Seriously, though. Every box represents someone who took time out of their day to help us care for these dogs, especially our 34 newest arrivals.

We are overwhelmed, grateful, and possibly about to become a cardboard recycling facility.
