I think most of you know that my family has had a rough couple of years. Well, last week was another rough one but thankfully with a very happy ending!
On Easter sunday David had what we thought was a minor mishap on the stairs. His elbow started to swell and turn black and blue so he took himself to the ER to have it xrayed. It turned out that the elbow was just badly bruised but while there, they found that his heart rate was so low they were surprised he was conscious. They admitted him to ICU and started testing. So-- it looks like he has always had bradycardia--his whole life. The odd part is that he is very athletic. A cyclist. Long story short, they found that his heart's electrical system does not work properly. It was failing. They installed a pacemaker-a very simple procedure. When he woke from surgery he told the surgeon he had never felt better in his life. He is doing great! Banging his elbow turned out to be a life-saving event!
