First and foremost, we thank everyone who has adopted for choosing adoption as the best option! Here you will find some remarkable stories that will make you smile and help you understand why each and every one of us at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter believes in second chances. Often many of us, including staff members and regular volunteers keep in touch with some of the adopters because we all fall in love with many different animals each day that touch our hearts for one reason or another. Bittersweet tears frequent our faces each day when we must say good bye to some of our special friends (who we bonded with while caring for them) on their special day when we get to send them off to a better life. I wish more people got to see the “before and after” pictures, or that priceless look on an animal’s face when you watch as he/she anxiously leaps into a car to finally go to their FOREVER HOME. Many people ask, "how can you handle working at a shelter?" True, most days bring each of us heartbreak but that "aha moment" is exactly why each member of the team at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter does what we do, every day.

Scout is the very definition of a lap dog.
Scout was found running on 81 a few weeks back , severely flea infested and emaciated.
He’s estimated to be 1 1/2 years of age , he currently weighs 17 pounds and is a lover of cuddles.

He has the cutest wrinkles and saddest puppy dog eyes.

Hes definitely going to need someone to help him with confidence building and exposing him to new sights and sounds.
It appears he may be connected to the hoarding situation we encountered that spanned 2 counties and contained over 50 dogs.

Scout loves being held and would benefit from someone who is home most of the time that can spend quality time with him.

He wants nothing more than to curl up and cuddle but he needs more than that to experience the full life that a dog should enjoy!

He’s young enough and sweet enough to learn .

Please consider helping one of these wonderful dogs.

They truly deserve a committed family to help them overcome what they didn’t ask to be born into.

When our Facebook business page recently went down, being unable to post updates about our animals and connect with our supporters was nothing short of devastating for our small, overworked team.

Wh**ey is a shy boy who's been at the shelter about 4 months and just graduated from to our cat adoptions room(yay!) meaning he's ready to be your new best friend. He has whiskers for dayssss!

He's super shy in his cage, but he warms up quickly once he's out and about and ready to be your lap cat after some patient acclimation.

Sol is a 2 year old 8 pound female and Lucky is a 4 year old 15 pound male.
They need to be spayed /neutered.

They are owner surrenders due to pregnancy and inability to continue to care for their needs.

They are in desperate need of grooming.

Please only apply if you can keep up with the financial cost of regular care, grooming is required for the animals health and wellbeing.

Join us for a spooktacular evening of Halloween fun at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM! Bring the kids in their favorite costumes and enjoy a safe, festive night of collecting candy from creatively decorated trunks.

Want to be part of the fun? We're looking for individuals, families, businesses, and community groups to decorate their vehicles and hand out treats. If you're interested in participating with a trunk, please contact [email protected].

Savanna is a 5 1/2 month old lynx point Siamese .
She weighs 6 pounds and had surgery 2 weeks ago to remove her eye.

She had an untreated eye infection that couldn’t be controlled by the time we got to help her.

She eats well and is litter trained.

She’s loves to play and has made the best of friends with her foster sister who happens to be a chihuahua.

She is not bothered by thunder, the vacuum or the hair dryer. Loves to cuddle and snuggle.

She would be a great companion for a home that includes other animals!

Meet Jude
Jude was found in very poor condition by a Scranton police officer in July, he almost died but has made a perfect recovery thanks to his incredible foster mom and dad!
He’s 4 mos old,
Neutered and up to date on shots 🧡
He’s Sweet & cuddly & full of purrs

Friendly, outgoing, nonstop energy, still learning his kitten manners but doing well.
Jude Loves other cats and he’s very playful with them.
His Ideal home would include another young playful cat.

He’s afriad of dogs but hasn't really given them much of a chance 😞
