This is Gary. He was recently hired as the spilled milk janitor. He’s also training in bird elimination.

June 8 - Gucci

Wils and I spent some time working her show heifers. Meet Gucci. She’s a beautiful red heifer from a family that means quite a bit to me.

Wils and I decided to wear sunglasses that matched our shirts. Sometimes you have to create your own joy and this did it for us.

June 6 - Mani/pedi Day

Twice a year we get the girls a mani - pedi day.

Cow hooves are made of the same thing as our nails, keratin. They grow and wear similar to us. Occasionally, they need a professional to manage.

Holy Cow Hoof Trimming comes here to help us with that. We trimmed 55 cows in about 3 hours.

June 4

Are cows smart? Yes and no.

8439 smacks her head on the side of the robot every single time she milks in an effort to get more pellets. Does it work? No. It’s programmed to give her a certain number of pounds.

Is she smart? Kind of. She knows where they come from. She tries to get more.

I don’t think we give enough credit to these girls.

June 3 - For the Girls

A very, very long story short- we are moving the location of the sprinkler system for the cows (I’ll talk about that later).

They showed up yesterday morning and a 20-something girl hopped out of the truck. I was immediately mad. They sent a girl to pass them tools, at least that is what I thought.

NOPE. She was the WELDER.

Let me repeat. She was the welder. SHE was here to do the work.

To say that I was both humbled and impressed is an understatement. Our girls watched her work. I watched her work. I wish I would have taken her picture but I didn’t want to be creepy. I hope she sees this and knows she made a small impact on a couple of young girls.

June 2 - The Beginning

I start with every tour with the same speech. “Hi. I’m Erin, this is my husband Travis, and our kids. We started this farm from scratch in the summer of 2012. We had this crazy dream to have a dairy farm. We found a banker who believed in us, bought 50 cows and 2 tractors, as well as a place to rent. I’d like to say the rest is history but it was actual blood, sweat, and tears.”

These pictures are from our very early days. We put in so much of ourselves to make this current life possible.

I don’t have many memories during those few years due to sleep deprivation. But I do remember these two pictures.

June 1 - World Milk Day

Happy June Dairy Month! This is the perfect time of year that I can focus on what we do and share it with all of you!

The dairy industry is incredibly versatile in what inputs are needed and used as well as diversity in products that can be made. For many of us, a day without a dairy product (or byproduct) would be nearly impossible.

I look forward to sharing how we are committed to making a quality product every single day. We are 24-7 : 365.

(And before you even mention, yes, I’m recycling some pics. I’m tired.)
