🐾 Real-Life Recall 🐾

These guys were all out in the backyard doing their own thing this morning. They couldn’t see me, they were busy playing, sniffing, and enjoying themselves, and I gave one whistle.

Here they come!

People often ask how I get my dogs to come when called, and the answer is pretty simple: we’ve practiced. A lot.

Doc has been doing this with me for almost 9 years.

Maggie for about 3 years.

Ollie and Tipsy for about a year and a half.

A reliable recall isn’t built overnight. It’s built by making coming back to you a good thing over and over and over again.

My dogs don’t think a recall means the fun is over. They know good things happen when they come back, so they’re excited to do it.

And honestly, I don’t care who gets to me first. 😊

What I love is seeing four dogs happily turn around and come running when they hear that whistle.

That’s real-life recall. ❤️🐾

And yes, before anyone asks, the only reason Miss Cassie didn’t come running is because she can’t hear the whistle anymore. ❤️

One of the most overlooked dog training skills isn’t a fancy trick or perfect obedience…

It’s teaching dogs how to simply relax around other dogs.

Many people think dogs need to constantly play with every dog they see, but one of the most valuable skills a dog can learn is how to be calm, comfortable, and neutral around others.

These dogs are all hanging out together without needing constant interaction. They’re practicing patience, relaxation, and good decision-making.

Whether your goal is a family pet, hiking buddy, therapy dog, or service dog, learning to settle and coexist peacefully is an important life skill.

Getting to spend time with Miss Valerie’s puppies from Foothill Aussies is the best! ❤️

Conducting their temperament tests is always so much fun, and I love watching each puppy’s unique personality shine through during the process. Every puppy teaches me something new, and it’s fascinating to learn about their strengths, preferences, confidence levels, and how they interact with the world around them.

These evaluations give us such valuable insight into each puppy, helping ensure they are matched with the right families and set up for success. Plus, who doesn’t love an excuse to cuddle and play with adorable Aussie puppies? 🐶💕

What’s one thing you’d like your dog to be better at by the end of summer? ☀️🐾

Training should fit into real life.

Most people don’t need a dog that can perform fancy tricks.

They want a dog that can relax while they enjoy coffee, walk politely through a store, settle at a ball game, greet guests appropriately, and be a comfortable part of everyday life.

Those moments may seem simple, but they’re often the behaviors that make the biggest difference.

Whether your goal is a well-mannered family companion, a future therapy dog, a Canine Good Citizen title, or simply a dog you can confidently take places, training should make life easier—not more complicated.

🐾 Weekend Puppy Camp Spots Opening in July! ☀️

Looking for a little extra help with your puppy this summer?

My Weekend Puppy Camp is designed for puppies who could benefit from additional structure, confidence-building, socialization, and real-world training practice in a home environment.

Puppies stay Friday through Sunday for three weekends in a row, where we focus on skills such as:

🐾 Confidence building
🐾 Real-world socialization and outings
🐾 Settling and relaxation skills
🐾 Leash manners
🐾 Polite greetings
🐾 Crate routines
🐾 Learning how to navigate the world calmly and successfully

The goal is to help puppies build real-life skills while still going home and practicing with their families in between weekends.

Think of it as a fun summer camp for puppies—filled with learning, adventures, structure, and opportunities to grow. ❤️

Weekend Puppy Camp spots are limited, and I am currently booking for July.

The puppy teenager phase can be tough, but watching those puppies grow into confident, successful dogs makes it all worthwhile.

I’m so proud of Sadie and all the hard work her family put in. 🐾

Watching Puppies Grow Into Their Potential ❤️🐾

This weekend I had an in-person session with Milou and his mom, and I left feeling incredibly proud of how far this team has come.

It’s hard to believe this sweet boy is only five months old.

Milou and his mom have worked incredibly hard together, and it shows. Whether they’re at a restaurant, coffee shop, or even sitting quietly in a classroom, he settles beautifully and is learning how to be calm, confident, and focused in the world around him.

Like any young puppy, he’s still working on some impulse control in exciting environments like parks and busy outdoor spaces—but honestly, that’s exactly what I would expect from a puppy his age. The important part is that he and his mom have built such a strong foundation and are learning to work together as a team.

What makes me most proud isn’t any specific behavior—it’s the relationship they’ve built together. The trust, communication, and connection between them is obvious every time I see them work together.

His mom recently shared that Milou alerted her before one of her migraines and then stayed close by her side afterward. She has also noticed him showing similar awareness when friends and family members aren’t feeling well, quietly choosing to stay near them and offer comfort.

Service dog work is a journey, and there are never any guarantees, but Milou is already showing many of the qualities that make these dogs so special.

I couldn’t be prouder of both Milou and his mom and everything they have accomplished together so far. I can’t wait to watch their journey continue and see where it takes them next.
