๐Ÿฑ This kitten has a wish list.

โœ”๏ธ Fresh food
โœ”๏ธ A clean space
โœ”๏ธ Lots of care
โœ”๏ธ A loving home

And the first three start with a volunteer. ๐Ÿ’œ

Cats begin their time at OAR needing a safe, clean, and comfortable place to begin their journey toward a loving home. Our Cat Care volunteers in the Medical & Foster Care Center help make that possible.

Cat Care volunteers provide fresh food and water, maintain clean living spaces, and follow established cleaning and safety protocols. This hands-on role plays a vital part in supporting cats who are newly arrived or receiving medical care.

๐Ÿ—“ Shift Available
Saturdays: 9:00โ€“11:00 AM

You would be a great fit if you:
โœ… Enjoy hands-on tasks such as refreshing food and water and replacing newspaper lining
โœ… Can easily bend, kneel, and move light supplies
โœ… Are comfortable working independently and following established cleaning and organizational procedures
โœ… Are age 18+

โœจ Itโ€™s hip to be sulfur dipped! โœจ

Now, our cats recovering from ringworm may not appreciate their spa treatments ๐Ÿ˜น, but sulfur dips are an important part of helping them heal and get one step closer to a loving home.

We are looking for foster homes for cats in our Adoption Program who are currently being treated for ringworm.

Ringworm is a common and very treatable condition in shelters, but recovery takes time, medication, and careful cleaning. Right now, these cats are staying in our Medical & Foster Care Center while they recover, but we would love to help them move into foster homes where they can have more space, comfort, and one-on-one attention.

These are cats we have transferred into our Adoption Program from our partner organizations, and foster homes play a huge role in helping them continue their journey toward adoption.

Fosters should be comfortable:
๐Ÿ’Š Giving daily oral medication
๐Ÿงผ Cleaning the catโ€™s space twice weekly on dip days
๐Ÿšฟ Helping with medicated sulfur dips, either at home or by bringing the cat to OAR twice weekly for dips
๐Ÿก Keeping the foster cat separate from personal pets, ideally in a spare bathroom or other easy-to-clean space

Treatment options:
1๏ธโƒฃ Foster gives daily medication and completes dips at home twice weekly.
2๏ธโƒฃ Foster gives daily medication at home and brings the cat to OAR twice weekly for dips.

We provide the supplies you need, including medication, sulfur dip, sprayer, sponges, p*e pads, and a playpen if needed. Our team will also be there to support you every step of the way.

Fostering a cat recovering from ringworm may take a little extra care, but it makes a big difference. By opening your home, you help free up much-needed space in our Medical & Foster Care Center and give a cat a more comfortable place to heal.

And hey, ringworm might not be your cup of tea,๐Ÿซ– but no big deal โ€“ we have plenty of non-ringworm cats that would love to be fostered by you!

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™ Volunteer Team Spotlight: Behavior Team ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

Every day, OAR's Behavior Team volunteers help cats take important steps toward finding loving homes. ๐Ÿกโœจ

Through patience, consistency, and positive, reward-based interactions, these dedicated volunteers support cats who need extra confidence building and behavior enrichment during their time at the Adoption Center. ๐Ÿ˜บ๐Ÿ’•

Every small step forward matters. Whether it is a cat accepting pets for the first time, approaching a visitor, or exploring their surroundings more confidently, these moments help cats show their true personalities to potential adopters. ๐ŸŒŸ By helping cats build confidence and trust, our Behavior Team plays an important role in preparing them for successful adoptions. ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you to our incredible Behavior Team volunteers for the time, patience, and compassion you give to OAR's cats each week. โค๏ธ Your dedication helps cats feel safe, gain confidence, and take the next step toward a loving home. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿก

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™ Foster Cat Spotlight: Grub ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

When Grub first arrived in foster care, he was a sweet kitten who loved pets and belly rubs, but he was also very shy. ๐Ÿฅฐ Most of the time, he could be found tucked away in his enclosed hidey-hole cat bed, only venturing out for a few minutes before retreating back to his safe space. He showed little interest in toys and preferred to observe the world from a distance. ๐Ÿ‘€

Everything changed when Grub began interacting with his foster family's cats. ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฑ At first, he watched them through a mesh screen, meowing because he wanted to be part of the action. Once he was cleared to mingle after his second vaccination, Grub wasted no time introducing himself. He immediately sought out his feline friends and quickly discovered that being part of a family was exactly where he wanted to be. โค๏ธ

Before long, Grub had transformed into a social butterfly. ๐Ÿฆ‹ He figured out how to climb onto the couch to be with everyone, loved playing with his foster brother, and patiently respected the boundaries of his foster sisters. His gentle nature even won over their resident 17-year-old grumpy cat! ๐Ÿ˜ป

Foster homes do so much more than provide a temporary place to stay. ๐Ÿก They help us learn what makes each cat unique and give cats the opportunity to build confidence, develop social skills, and prepare for life in a loving home. โœจ

We're thrilled to share that Grub has since been adopted and is now enjoying life with his loving family! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’™

A huge thank you to Grub's foster family for helping him blossom into the confident, affectionate cat he is today. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’•

Interested in helping more cats like Grub? Becoming a foster volunteer can make all the difference in a cat's journey to a loving home. We provide supplies, support, and guidance every step of the way. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฑ Learn more about fostering by emailing [email protected]! Or check out the link in the comment section to sign up!

๐Ÿ‘€ We thought we might have to change Scraggy Bayโ€™s name to โ€œScragglyโ€ Bay, but turns out, all this dapper dude needed was a little sweater to keep him cozy and turn him into the handsome cat we have today! Fixing up his eye didnโ€™t hurt either.. so now, happy and healthy, at 7 years old, heโ€™s ready for adoption. He does prefer to stay with his foster family so he doesnโ€™t get all the attention the cats at the adoption center get, so we just need a little help getting his cute face out there. ๐Ÿ˜ป

๐Ÿ‘” Scraggy Bay has only a few requests - a cute sweater, a sunny window, lots and LOTS of wet food, and some loving feline and/or human companions. If youโ€™re a cat lover, youโ€™ll have a lot in common because he LOVES other cats too! He also loves human snuggles and attention and has the most adorable chorus of chirps to get it. Heโ€™s quite the snuggler! ๐Ÿค—

๐Ÿ•๏ธ Now, through June 30th, we are sending the kitties to summer camp! Any cat that is FeLV+, is currently available for adoption in a foster home, or is listed as a โ€˜camperโ€™ at the adoption center is available for foster-to-adopt. This means you can foster Scraggy Bay while you are deciding if he is a good fit for your home. At the end of camp (about 30 days into fostering) you can decide if you would like to adopt or end the fostering period. If you do decide to adopt, you will pay a reduced adoption fee of $45! ๐Ÿ›ถ

โœ๏ธ Fill out an Adoption Questionnaire at ohioalleycat.org/adopt and our Offsite Adoption Coordinator will reach out to schedule a meet and greet! ๐Ÿ‘‹

๐Ÿงถ Who couldnโ€™t use a bit of zen in their life? Cali is never doing too much, except growing those huge bunny ears and being the best little nighttime snuggle bunny!! She is purrfect for a busy human because she is quite independent during the day but turns into a lover by night, crawling into your bed and spending the night there purring away and laying next to you. ๐Ÿฐ

๐Ÿง˜ At just 7 years young, Cali has a much older soul. She is a lover of soft surfaces and sunshine. She much prefers to be warm and peaceful over a bunch of chaos and playtime, but she is sometimes down for a play session too. She is polite, tidy, well behaved, and sheโ€™ll even greet you at the door when you get home! Probably to see if youโ€™re ready for bed.. ๐Ÿ‘€ Sheโ€™s a big softie looking for a soft and sunny human(s) and home. ๐Ÿก

๐Ÿ•๏ธ Since Cali has been with us for many months, now through June 30th, we are sending the kitties to summer camp! Remember our cute little buddy, Tony Soprano, that we posted a couple weeks ago?!

Well, he's finally one and a half apples tall, neutered, all better from his cold, and waiting at OAR's adoption center to meet his new best friend!

Tony Soprano upgraded from that scrungly little guy in the first photo to the robust, happy kitten in the second photo because of our awesome Intake & Medical Team AND his outstanding foster home. We're so happy for little Tony and can't wait to see him off to a home of his very own!
