Mountain View Humane is proud to provide free transportation to pets that live outside our immediate service area. The Hip-To-Snip Trip trucks meet the pet owners at a central location and are transported to MVH’s Spay/Neuter Clinics for their surgery. Our mobile unit travels to remote areas for those individuals who are unable to bring their pet to our Christiansburg clinic. If unsure of your bes

For our TNR friends, sometimes that last cat or two in a colony can be so difficult to catch in order to get them spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and ear-tipped. Check out these tips for those hard-to-catch kitties, because we know just how important it is to spay and neuter them all!

What do you do when that last hard-to-catch cat just won’t take the bait?

There’s always that one in the colony who’s either too wily or too timid to cooperate. But 100% sterilization rates are vital to the success of Trap-Neuter-Return.

Here are a few of our tried and true techniques for hard-to-catch cats.

1️⃣ Use drop traps, which cats are usually less fearful of than normal traps.

2️⃣ Employ trap training, where you move food closer and closer to the trap until it’s inside.

3️⃣ Outfit your trap with a clear rear door so they think there’s a way out.

4️⃣ Disguise the trap within a box or foliage.

5️⃣ Hide the trip plate so they can’t avoid it.

6️⃣ Lure them indoors where there’s no way out.

Though we may be celebrating the long weekend, please don't forget to keep your pets safe! Make sure their microchip information is up-to-date with the microchip company, and if your pet doesn't have a microchip, schedule their appointment with us today! https://www.mvhclinic.org/scheduling/

July 4th is also a time when many pets get lost, and although we hope you never have to use it, a microchip is a pet's best way of being reunited with their owners!

doesn't just impact travel plans; it also impacts shelters nationwide. According to 2025 data from Shelter Animals Count, the day after Memorial Day was the #1 day of the year for stray intake for dogs and cats.

This seasonal trend highlights the importance of proactive community education and lost-pet prevention efforts ahead of holiday weekends. Small reminders about ID tags, microchips, and holiday planning can help keep pets safely at home. Read more: https://bit.ly/42Pi3Ps
