Meet Amy.

When Amy first arrived, she was terrified of other Dogs.

She believed she had to manage everything around her.

If another Dog got too close, she would growl.

If she felt overwhelmed, she would panic.

She wasn’t trying to be difficult.

She was trying to survive.

When these photos were taken, Cameron was overwhelmed.

Instead of barking, panicking, running away, or trying to handle the moment by himself, he walked over to the door and waited.

Over time, Cameron learned that when he feels overwhelmed, he can ask me for help by sitting quietly near what he wants or needs.

So he waited.

From a distance, I let him know I was on my way.

We reconnected.

We slowed down.

And once he felt better, he chose to go back out and spend time with the other Dogs.

Most people see a Dog sitting by a door.

I see a Dog asking for help.

That is one of the most important things a Dog can learn.
