Helm Horsemanship Training Great Horses and Great People to do Great Things For the past 25 years my horse training has primarily focused on wild mustangs.

As the supervisor for the Arizona Prison wild horse and burro program my primary responsibility was training inmates to gentle and train wild horses. In April of 2021 I retired from the wild horse inmate program so I could devote my time to cowboy churches and clinics.

"One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was from a horse master. He told me to go slow to go fast. I think that applies to everything in life. We live as though there aren't enough hours in the day but if we do each thing calmly and carefully we will get it done quicker and with much less stress."~Viggo Mortensen

The Western Man — A Gentle Hand, A Steady Heart

A horse learns a man by his hands. A neighbor learns him by his word. Over time, both come to know whether they can trust him.

The western man earns that trust in ordinary moments—taking care of his animals, showing up when he’s needed, and keeping a promise even when it costs him something.

There’s room for tenderness in a strong heart. There’s always time to lend a hand. And faith takes root in the daily choices a man makes.

May we leave someone’s load a little lighter today.
