Austin was never a failure. He was failed.
He raced seven times and never finished ahead of another horse. He gave everything he had, because that is what Thoroughbreds are bred to do. He tried. He worked. He showed up.
And when he wasn’t fast enough, he was discarded.
By the time Red Bucket stepped in, Austin and other horses from his racing stable were in heartbreaking condition …. neglected, hungry, and so desperate they were eating each other’s tails.
But Red Bucket saw what others had forgotten.
They saw a horse who still had a future.
A horse who deserved protection.
A horse who needed time, love, and the right person.
Dena had just lost her beloved horse of ten years and was heartbroken. She knew she either needed to open her heart again, or step away from horses altogether. When she found Austin through Red Bucket, Susan and the team were careful, protective, and deeply committed to making sure the match was right.
Ten years later, Austin has become family.
He learned to jump. He went on to show in hunters, jumpers, and eventing. He has gone on trails, tried everything asked of him, and excelled …. not because he had anything to prove, but because he was finally safe enough to become who he was always meant to be.
Austin didn’t need to be the fastest horse.
He just needed someone to believe he was worth saving.
And because of Red Bucket, he got the life he deserved — loved, spoiled, happy, and home. ❤️
Responsibility for life.
