🌾🐴 OPERATION 1,600 BALES STARTS NOW! 🐴🌾

We need your help.

Ivelolharele Retirement Sanctuary is home to 17 horses, many of them seniors or horses with special needs. These horses aren’t waiting to be adopted. When they come through our gates, they are home for life. ❤️

And right now, our biggest concern is HAY.

We estimate that we need approximately 1,600 small square bales to carry our herd through the Wisconsin winter and into spring.

Hay is currently costing us around $5–$6 per bale, and Bruce and I have been paying for a large amount of it ourselves. After the unexpected expenses from the tornado this spring, we simply can’t tackle this hay bill alone.

So we’re launching:

Can’t donate? PLEASE SHARE THIS POST. Sharing costs nothing, and someone on your friends list may be a farmer with hay, a business willing to sponsor a load, or simply someone who would love to buy one bale for an old horse. ❤️

Farmers & hay producers: We would also be incredibly grateful for donations of good-quality horse hay or the opportunity to purchase hay at a nonprofit discount.

We’re starting our counter at:

And we’re going to update it as those bales come in!

Maybe you can only buy one bale. That’s okay. One bale becomes ten. Ten becomes a hundred. And if enough people help, 1,600 bales becomes a barn full of hay and 17 horses safely fed through another Wisconsin winter. 🐴❤️

💔 Tonight, Ivelolharele had to say “see you later” to our oldest resident, Denny. 💔

This is one of those posts we never want to have to write.

After battling colic for the past few days, and with our vet doing everything possible to help him, we learned tonight that Denny had a serious intestinal blockage with the beginning of a twist. There was nothing more we could do to make him better.

So tonight, at 33 years old, we made the heartbreaking decision to let our sweet old man go peacefully.

Denny was the oldest member of our herd, but he was so much more than a number. He was part of the heart of this sanctuary.

We knew when we chose to give old horses a forever home that loving them would someday mean having to make these decisions. But knowing that never makes it easier.

We fought for you, old man. And when we couldn’t fix this for you, we kept our promise and made sure you didn’t have to hurt.

Tonight there is an empty place in our barn and an enormous hole in our hearts.

Run free, Denny. No more aches. No more old bones. No more pain. Just green pastures, strong legs, and all the grass you could ever want. 🌈🐴

Thank you for trusting us to be your home and to love you through your final chapter.

You were loved right up until your very last breath, and you’ll be loved long after it.

This isn’t goodbye, sweet Denny.
It’s just “see you later.” ❤️🐴🌈

🐴❤️ Our books are here!!!! I have a list of those of you that requested a book, if you can please send me your address if you’d like it shipped, I will get them out next week. If you are picking up locally also please message me to set up a day and time to pick up! These will also be available tomorrow at our fundraiser!

Tonight, we share this with very heavy hearts. 💔🐴

While we were away today, our sweet little Jewel crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

We came home and headed out to do chores, never expecting that we would have to say goodbye to our precious little mini pony. Our hearts are broken.

Jewel may have been little in size, but she held a very big place here at Ivelolharele. She was part of our family, part of our daily routine, and one of the special souls who made this sanctuary home.

One of the hardest parts of what we do is knowing that someday we will have to say goodbye. We promise our residents a safe and loving forever home, and with that promise comes the responsibility of loving them right through to the end.

Tonight, the barn feels a little different. There’s one little set of hooves missing, and there is an empty place in our hearts.

Run free, sweet Jewel. 🌈🐴❤️

Thank you for being part of our lives. Thank you for trusting us to be your family.

You were loved.
You mattered.
And you will never be forgotten.

We’re sorry that we aren’t able to hold the fundraiser here at Ivelolharele Retirement Sanctuary this year. After the tornado damage and a few other unforeseen challenges, we simply didn’t have enough time to get everything here at the sanctuary ready.

But don’t worry — we plan to bring it HOME to the sanctuary next year! 🐴❤️
