Happy National Dog Day!

These are just a few of the amazing dogs who belong to our shelter staff. Because apparently spending all day taking care of dogs at work just isn't enough, so naturally we all go home to more dogs.

Now we want to see YOUR dogs! Drop a photo in the comments and show us who is currently running your household, taking up your entire couch, and costing you a small fortune in treats.

Bonus points if your dog came from RCHS! We especially love seeing our former shelter dogs living their best lives with their families.

Happy National Dog Day to the good dogs, the bad dogs, the weird dogs, and especially the ones who are somehow all three.

We would like to take a little time to address the massive volume of surrender requests that we have received over the last few months. As much as we would love to help every single dog, that simply isn't possible. Our space is finite, and resources are limited. Over 50% of the dogs in our program were surrendered by their owners for various reasons.

The shelter is not able to place aggressive dogs, dogs who cannot safely live in homes with other dogs, dogs who are not good with strangers (as we are all strangers to your dog), and dogs with bite histories. We can help you with resources to manage these issues in your home, training resources or recommendation to a veterinarian for their intervention for medication or humane euthanasia if needed. As much as we would love to help every dog, it's just simply not possible, safe or responsible.

If a dog is not safe in your home and you are worried about your family's safety your dog likely won't be safe here with us in shelter environment either. It also would not be safe to place in the home of the majority of our adopters. The shelter isn't able to address or fix those types of issues.

If you have a dog that you need to rehome, there is a surrender form on our website. Ideally, the shelter rehoming your dog should be your very last resort and you must understand that right now we are likely going to advise that you try to rehome your dog, responsibly, on your own. You are always welcome to call to see if we have space or if we might be able to take your pet but be aware we may not be able to assist immediately.

We have something new this week! 🤩

Our daycare and boarding pups got some extra comfy upgrades and they are loving it! 🩵🐶

These beds have washable waterproof liners that zip around their memory foam orthopedic pads which make cleaning a breeze! ✨

We will have our extra stock available for purchase beginning 8/26. We have several sizes and styles available (way more than pictured) that are sure to keep your pup comfortable! Stop in and check them out, your pup will love it! 🐾💜

We have some exciting news to share!

Thanks to a grant from the ASPCA's The Rescue Effect, we will be offering FREE Sponsored Adoption Days two weekends each month throughout August, September, and October!

That means if you adopt a dog during one of these special adoption weekends, your adoption fee will be covered in full by the grant. The only cost to bring your new best friend home will be the Ross County dog license, which is $12.

There are no breed restrictions, no age restrictions, and no catch. If a dog is available for adoption during one of these weekends, they qualify.

Our adoption process is conversation based. Rather than a lengthy application, we'll spend a few minutes talking with you about your home, your lifestyle, and what you're looking for in a dog. Every dog has a different personality, energy level, and set of needs, and those conversations help us guide you toward the dog that is most likely to be a great fit for your family.

If you've never adopted from us before, don't worry. Our process is friendly, relaxed, and designed to help you find the right dog, not make you jump through hoops.

Whether you're looking for a walking buddy, a family dog, a cuddle bug, or a senior who has retirement all figured out, we're here to help make a match that sets both you and your new dog up for success.

Our first Sponsored Adoption Day is THIS Saturday, August 8. If you've been thinking about adopting, this is the perfect time to come meet your new best friend.
