Diamond H Braunvieh We breed Registered Braunvieh Cattle. We emphasize black, polled genetics. We specialize in bulls that help the commercial breeder be more profitable.

We are a seedstock producer of Braunvieh Cattle. This page will be a cornucopia of ranch life and things we find interesting about breeding cattle. We want to share moments in our lives and our philosophy of breeding cattle

This is the kind of bull that shows why we study the whole performance curve.

Low birth weight is valuable, but we also want cattle that get up, grow, and bring something to the table at weaning. This bull offers a balanced profile that may fit cattlemen looking for calving ease without giving up useful growth.

What we like:
• Practical birth weight
• Strong growth potential
• Sound structure
• Good disposition
• Backed by Diamond H genetics

Records help keep a seedstock program honest.

They show us which cows are raising the right kind of calves. They show us which sires are adding value. They help us spot consistency, identify weaknesses, and make better breeding decisions year after year.

Cattle sense still matters. But records help confirm what our eyes are seeing.

At Diamond H Ranch, we use performance information to keep improving the cattle we offer.

Color matters to a lot of commercial cattlemen.

In black Braunvieh cattle, color testing helps provide more confidence in what a bull may produce. When buyers are trying to keep a consistent calf crop or meet market preferences, that information matters.

At Diamond H Ranch, we use testing when it helps us and our buyers make better decisions.

The more we know, the better we can match cattle to the right program.

Docility matters.

Quiet cattle are safer to handle, easier to work, and better suited for real-world ranch conditions. Disposition may not always get the attention that growth or carcass traits do, but any cattleman who has worked bad-tempered cattle knows it matters.

Braunvieh cattle are known for their docility, and that is one of the traits we value in our program.

Good cattle should perform. They should also be manageable.

Culling hard is not just good for our herd. It is good for our buyers.

Not every bull should be sold as a herd bull. Not every female should stay in production. A seedstock producer has a responsibility to sort cattle honestly and make hard decisions before the buyer ever shows up.

At Diamond H Ranch, cattle have to earn their place.

If they do not meet the standard, they do not get promoted as something they are not.

A bull has to be more than powerful.

He has to be able to travel, breed cows, hold up, and stay sound. Feet, structure, and movement matter because a bull that cannot get across the pasture will not do your program much good.

When evaluating a bull, watch him walk. Study his feet. Look at his angles. Pay attention to how he carries himself.

Power is important. Soundness keeps that power working.

Featured Bull: DHR Elvis

This bull brings the kind of balance we like to see — eye appeal, structure, performance, and practical traits that can work for a commercial cattleman.

What we like about him:
• Strong phenotype
• Sound structure
• Good performance profile
• Backed by a cow family we trust
• Built with commercial usefulness in mind

He is the kind of bull that deserves a close look if you are wanting Braunvieh genetics that can add value to your program.

Pedigree accuracy matters.

That is why Diamond H Ranch DNA-proves every calf’s sire. When you are making breeding decisions, evaluating performance, and selling seedstock genetics, you need to know exactly where those traits are coming from.

Guessing is not good enough.

DNA verification helps protect the integrity of the program and gives buyers more confidence in the cattle they are studying.

“Performance-tested” should mean more than a marketing phrase.

To us, it means cattle have been measured, compared, and studied. It means looking at growth, structure, carcass information, birth and weaning data, fertility, and the kind of practical traits that determine whether a bull belongs in a working herd.

Performance testing does not replace cattle sense.

But it does give us better information — and better information leads to better decisions.

Weaning weights help tell the truth.

It's easy to walk through a pasture and pick out the calves you like. But when weaning day comes and they cross the scales, we get another piece of information that matters.

Weaning weights help us evaluate more than the calf. They help us look at the cow that raised it, compare sire groups, identify consistency and see whether the breeding decisions we made months earlier produced the results we expected.

That's why we collect performance data.

A scale doesn't care about pedigree, how good a calf looks in a picture, or what we hoped a mating would produce. It simply gives us another piece of information to use in making the next breeding decision.

At Diamond H, every calf tells us something worth knowing—even when the answer isn't the one we hoped for.
