Two yellow Labs, one very big future, and a whole lot of growing to do. 🐾

At just 14 weeks old, Kevin and Grissom are already learning about the world as puppies in training with Guide Dogs for the blind. Swipe to see Kevin during his first visit over a month ago, and Grissom who stopped by for a weigh-in this week.

From getting comfortable at the vet to exploring new sights, sounds, and surfaces, these little guys are building confidence one experience at a time. Socialization at this age helps lay the groundwork for the important work they may one day do.

It's a big job for little paws, and we're delighted to be one small stop along the way.

Cheers to the dedicated humans giving the time, patience, and love that go into raising the next generation of potential guide dogs and helping them prepare for whatever comes next.

Future guide dogs? Maybe. Very good boys already? Absolutely. 💛

🐾 Happy National Neighborhood Pet Store Day! 🛍️

Today is a great day to celebrate the locally owned pet stores that help keep Chico’s pets happy, healthy, and very well supplied. From food and treats to toys, enrichment, grooming, and all the things our pets somehow convince us they need, our local pet businesses are an important part of our community.

And while we’re celebrating local pet businesses, there’s still time to show some love to your Chico favorites in the Best of Chico final round! Voting wraps up September 30.

⚠️ A rabies reminder for the North Valley’s pet families

Rabies may not be something you think about often, but it’s one of those things where a little prevention can make a big difference.

The CDC recently issued a health advisory about an increase in people being exposed to rabid or potentially rabid animals, with bats accounting for the majority of these exposures. We’ve also had recent confirmed rabies-positive bats in nearby Sutter and Yuba counties.

So what should you do if you find a bat?

🦇 Never handle a bat with your bare hands. A bat that is on the ground, unable to fly, or behaving unusually may need to be evaluated for rabies. Contact your local Animal Control agency for guidance and to determine whether the bat should be collected and tested. Testing can help determine whether people or pets may have been exposed and need further care.

🐾 If your pet may have interacted with a bat, take it seriously. Even if you didn't see a bite, contact Animal Control and your veterinarian for guidance. Bat bites can be very small and may not be obvious.

💉 Keep your pets' rabies vaccinations current. Rabies vaccination is one of the most important ways to protect dogs and cats from this deadly but preventable disease.

📋 And if you live within the City of Chico, make sure your dog's license is current, too. Chico requires dogs over four months old that have been in the city for more than 30 days to be licensed, and a current rabies certificate is required to obtain a license.

One last important reminder: if you or someone in your household may have had contact with a bat, don't wait for symptoms. Wash any possible bite or scratch with soap and water and contact a healthcare provider or public health department promptly for guidance. Rabies is preventable when appropriate treatment is given before symptoms begin.

What a difference one year and one person can make. 🧑🏻‍⚕️🐾 Help us celebrate him in the comments!

Today marks one year since Dr. Kyle Crowson (and Rio!) joined the Morningside team, and we’re taking a moment to recognize just how fortunate we are to have them here.

From the beginning, Dr. Crowson has brought so much to our practice, helping turn our vision for Morningside into something real through the way he cares for patients, supports clients, and shows up for our team every day.

He brings an incredible depth of knowledge to his work, but it’s his integrity, thoughtfulness, and genuine care for the animals and people in front of him that stand out most. He takes the time to listen, to educate, and to make sure every patient receives thoughtful, compassionate care.

And of course, he brings us Rio! Her big, beautiful golden face has become a beloved presence behind the front desk, bringing plenty of silly antics, paper-stealing chaos, whirlwind affection, and a whole lot of stunning golden tailfeathers. 🐶✨

Today, we’re celebrating and appreciating the people whose hard work, skill, dedication, and care keep us and our communities moving forward... from healthcare workers and teachers to tradespeople, farmers, small business owners, service workers, first responders, and so many more.

Work takes many forms, but every contribution matters. Today is a chance to pause, recognize the people behind the work, and appreciate all that they do. ❤️

This coming week there will be repaving on Flying V St. which means access to our side of the parking lot will be restricted on Tuesday, September 8.

Don’t worry, we’ll be open and you can still get to us! Please take Forest Ave. to Flying V St. and enter our parking lot from the T. Bar side, as shown in the graphic.

We’re excited to be an Aid Station Sponsor for an event that celebrates something we’re lucky to have right here in our community: trails that bring us together, challenge us, and give us a place to explore, connect, and enjoy nature.
