We lost a member of our pack yesterday.
Molly was a fighter. Not just these last three months, but her entire life she’s always been the most spunky of our pups. Since her diagnosis, we’ve loved on her a little extra. She was a rollercoaster - you never knew if she’d have a good or bad day. If she wasn’t waking me up throughout the night to go outside, I was waking up to make sure she was still breathing.
In July, we had a week trip planned to Wisconsin that we canceled since it was so soon after she got sick. At the end of September, Brandon had a trip to Yellowstone. Molly was doing well and the vet said we should definitely take her. I think that was the best decision for all of us. A week of family time - in the car, Airbnbs, hotels, on walks… we got to visit my sister and her family in Colorado before going through Yellowstone and Grand Teton National park, eventually making our way to visit friends in Durango, CO. Molly surprised us all with how she was able to keep up with the pack, even playing fetch and running more. We got home and started to see a decline. A few tweaks in her medicine, and nothing was kicking her immune system back into gear. Between her vet appointment yesterday and today, she wasn’t even the same dog. Her light was fading. You could see she was nearing the end and we no longer wanted to see her suffer.
We said goodbye to our sweet Molly. Dr. Caleb and his amazing staff at Southwest Vet has been by our side through this battle. They helped us make so many decisions - this one being the most difficult.
I tried finding all my favorite pictures and videos of Mol, but it’s literally endless. Here are a few. Brandon and I are feeling like there’s a chunk missing from our hearts. We appreciate everyone who has ever thrown a ball or given her head pats. This still feels like a bad dream.
