Before anyone asks, his foster to adopt is the first person that contacted us regarding him since there were over 75 inquiries about him 😳. If it does not work out, we will move down the line. We appreciate everyone’s love and concern for this little guy! You guys are the best community for our fur babies! 🫶🏻

🚨 URGENT HEALTH ALERT FOR CAT OWNERS IN OUR COMMUNITY 🚨

Recently, our veterinary team has seen an alarming surge in cases of Feline Panleukopenia (often referred to as feline distemper or feline parvo). This highly contagious and heartbreaking virus has caused devastating illness in local cats and kittens over the past few weeks.

We want to share vital information on what this disease is, how to spot it, and—most importantly—how to protect your feline family members.

❓ What is Feline Panleukopenia?
Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV) attacks rapidly dividing cells in a cat’s body, primarily targeting the bone marrow, intestines, and immune system.

Extremely Contagious and Resilient— FPV can survive in the environment (on bedding, shoes, floors, and clothing) for up to a year. Cats do not need to be in direct contact with another cat to contract it; indoor-only cats can still be exposed if the virus is tracked into the house.

High Mortality Rate: Unvaccinated cats—especially kittens, seniors, and cats with weakened immune systems—are at extreme risk of severe complications or sudden death.

🚨 Symptoms to Watch For:
If your cat shows any of the following signs, seek emergency veterinary care immediately:

Severe lethargy, depression, or hiding
High fever
Persistent vomiting
Severe, often bloody diarrhea
Loss of appetite / refusal to drink water
Sitting hunched over the water bowl without drinking

🛡️ How You Can Protect Your Cat:
VACCINATIONS SAVE LIVES

The good news is that Feline Panleukopenia is nearly 100% preventable through routine core vaccination.

Check Vaccination Records: The panleukopenia vaccine is part of the core combination shot (often listed as FVRCP or the "distemper shot").

Kittens Need Boosters: Kittens require a series of vaccinations starting around 6–8 weeks of age to ensure full immunity.

Keep Indoor Cats Vaccinated: Even if your cat never steps outside, virus particles can be brought inside on shoes or clothes.

Isolate Sick Pets Immediately: If you suspect your cat is unwell, isolate them from other pets and call your veterinarian right away.

Dr. Koss and Dr. Higdon will be filling in next week while Dr. Rucker completes her yearly continuing education classes required for licensure and on family vacation. Our schedule is listed below:

Monday, May 25th- CLOSED- Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Tuesday, May 26th- 8a- 6p
Wednesday May 27th- 8a- 12p
Thursday, May 28th- 8a- 6p
Friday, May 29th- 8a- 6p

Monday, June 1st- 8a- 6p
Tuesday, June 2nd- 8a- 6p
Wednesday, June 3rd- 8a- 12p

*Closed for lunch daily from 12p- 1p.

Dr. Rucker will return on Thursday, June 4th and we will resume our normal schedule.

Family always comes first, and unfortunately, Dr. Rucker’s baby is experiencing a sudden medical emergency. Because of this, our office will be closed tomorrow, May 18th, so Dr. Rucker can be at the hospital.
