It’s never enough time. It’s never the right time. With heavy a very heavy heart and typing through tears, Our beloved Braith this weekend has journeyed to the rainbow bridge. This past Fall at his annual exam he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. His prior annual exam was perfect. He unfortunately deteriorated quickly and we chose to not do extremely invasive biopsies due to his age. Braith has been part of our community for 19-1/2 years. So many of you were able to share with us his antics especially when we decided he had more fun with us at work then the few hours at home. He was my personal showman. He loved jumping in random peoples purses, lick stroller mess bottoms, walk underneath tall dogs and wrestle with Frenchies. He jumped high, meowed loud and vogued in the windows. We have appreciated all of your love for him. Please know that a few of us are having a hard time discussing our loss while at the store. If we seem down or not talkative, know it’s our grieving. ` Hollus (and team)

Clinician Brief today had this take away for a**l gland issues which has been a hot topic in the veterinarian world as of late. "Licking, chewing, and/or dragging of the peria**l region is not always caused by a**l sac disease. If a**l sacs are empty or clinical signs do not resolve after a**l sac expression, ectoparasites and allergy should be considered. One study found ≈50% of patients with peria**l pruritus not resolved by a**l sac expression had either environmental allergies or cutaneous adverse food reaction."

There are quite a few debates about if groomers should should express a**l glands. More and more evidence is NO groomers should not, especially since too many clients assume scooting is due to the sac being filled when it just means a very itchy area. Newer treatments from the medical industry include treating the a**l gland area in a specific manner with a flush versus emptying the glands for repeat issues.
