Global Gardens Chicago We are a non-profit organization and urban farm that supports 60+ refugees who grow organic vegetables for sale and home consumption!

The mission of Global Garden Refugee Training Farm is to:

+ Improve access to fresh vegetables for newly arrived refugee families and their urban neighbors
+ Feed the souls of displaced farmers through reconnection with the soil and food production
+ Provide supplemental income for participating refugee farmers
+ Foster new, refugee-operated farms

This Saturday, May 16th, is our first concert of the season! Gates open and food is served at 4, and music is from 5-6:30pm with 🥁

Reminder: all of our events have limited seating so be sure to arrive early to claim your spot or BYOC- Bring Your Own Chair!

Also, we highly recommend taking public transportation, as parking near our farm is limited (we’re a few blocks from the Francisco brown line)

Hi all, it’s Haley the Director. Do you like to read? This is an amazing book called The Last Sweet Bite about how war affects the culinary traditions of different cultures (there is a chapter on the Rohingya of Burma, an ethnic group which is very present here at Global Gardens). Bookends & Beginnings, a book shop in Evanston, has a book club called Global Issues, Local Responses, and the next meeting on June 18th will focus on this book. I will be a guest speaker, joining Ana Croegaert (author of Bosnian Refugees in Chicago) and Laurell Sims of Evanston Grows, for a conversation at the meeting about food, gardening, and culture. The event is open to the public and you are not expected to read the whole book before attending. You can purchase a ticket for it at the link below and see more details there. Please note!!! ➡️ the cost of the ticket covers the book. Buy your ticket, then pick up the book at the store in Evanston. Or, I am happy to pick it up for you and bring it to our farm, where you can then retrieve it. Hope to see you there 📖🪻

Only ONE more day from our Spring Giving Campaign deadline, and we could really use your help since this is our first year operating without any support from the USDA.

The USDA no longer supports DEI initiatives, which means our farm can no longer apply for this funding.

A donation helps our farm continue achieving its mission to improve access to fresh veggies for refugee families, provide a place of healing and reconnection with the soil and providing income to our market farmers.

Any little support you can offer today will help us continue to thrive at the garden!

Every year in the spring we invite returning and new community gardeners to the farm to go over the rules for the season, give out garden plots, and pass out seeds. The energy at the farm this day is high—filled with lots of excitement for the upcoming growing season and a hunger to get started in the garden!

This year we asked each farmer how many people they feed with the things they grow at our garden. The total individuals they’ve reported so far (we have to meet with some people individually still) this year is 267!

Please consider supporting each and every one of our farmers by making a donation to our spring campaign! We’re only 20% to our goal and need your help with only TWO more days to go! Any small donation or a share is super helpful!

Farmer Than gives us some much needed tips for growing green beans by utilizing found objects to help his beans grow big and strong!
