A keen eye will spot Bailey in both groups 👀.

As funny as that seems, it says a lot about dog behavior. If your daycare either engages in play-all-day, or has set groups all day, then they really aren’t catering to your dog.

Bailey is a super social boxer who does well with nearly every dog she meets. She trained with us, has an awesome older sister, helps us with new dog Evals, and attends regular daycare. But that fun and full life means that sometimes Miss B needs a little time to chill.

And we understand that.

Dogs who aren’t given space to rest or given opportunity for some slower play are candidates for a dog fight. While it’s highly unlikely Bailey would ever snap, it’s also just kind of rude to force her into chaos when she’s asking for calm.

I’m not sure why most dog daycares don’t want to acknowledge that 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Oh did it? Or were you just completely blind to (and likely never educated on) the warning signs?

We are proud to offer Chicago’s ONLY structured, quiet kennel. I’ve seen a large handful of other kennels use the word “structure” followed by phrases like cage free, all day play, etc. which is honestly laughable.

Do your dog a favor and be sure their daycare truly understands dog behavior and isn’t just using a lot of marketing fluff. Pun intended.

If you’re just starting out in a small business, I get it. But it’s important to value your time appropriately as well.

Jesse is a master dog trainer with over 15 years experience. He can do it all from complete off leash obedience and service dog training to major behavior rehabilitation to save dogs from euthanasia.

New dog trainers pop up every single day because there’s virtually no barrier to entry or major start up costs (since a lot don’t even study under mentors anymore either 🙄).

In short: any idiot can call themselves a dog trainer and a lot in fact do. If you want a serious dog trainer, expect to pay serious prices.

We charge $235 for all training consultations. This gives you an hour of Jesse’s time which is a tremendous value BUT it also helps us w**d out owners who aren’t serious. So for family owned small businesses like ours, our time is quite literally that valuable. We’d rather lose clients to a cheaper trainer because if that’s what matters more to you than finding the best, you’re probably not the client for us anyway.

And no, that’s not “Slytherin” of me to say. A Hufflepuff just calls it like she sees it, mmkay?

I remember when I used to look presentable when I walked the dogs. Nowadays everyone is just lucky to get out of the house at a reasonable time.

And yes. That includes Burrito’s collection of bugs. Because they’re part of our pack now too 🤷🏼‍♀️.

The greatest thing about running Chicago’s only structured, quiet kennel is that I feel confident enough to spoil the dogs. Allow me to explain…

We put structure first.

Our staff are trained by my husband who is a master dog trainer.

We rotate activities every hour so don’t aren’t over-stimulated and get enough time to rest.

Playgroups are sorted by personality, not breed or size.

Everything we do is thoughtful. Which is why I know when I can give affection. As a former “crazy dog mom”, the biggest eye opener for me was that my love for my dog wasn’t always helping her.

Once you understand dog behavior, you’re able to care for them on another level. Some of our most reactive or aggressive dogs have come to know me as the lady dishing out treats and pets. Because of the structure we have in place, I’m able to safely give them the best of both worlds: the love on top of the training.

So many dog daycares have turned simple “caring” into care. You can love dogs but that doesn’t qualify you to watch over them. That’s how fights and injuries happen.

Our staff are not only trained by a master dog trainer and behavior expert, it’s actually part of the job description. We require staff to socialize new dogs, work with Board & Trains, understand body language in group play, and a plethora of other skills that simply aren’t taught at your average kennel.

A lot of clients ask how to cool our dogs off in the summer while keeping them safe.

A big misconception is that they just need to drink or that you need to dump water over the dogs head. Instead, you need to ensure their paws and their muzzle are getting a bit of a soak. That’s the best way to help them regulate their body heat

We also don’t recommend ice cold water. What happens a lot of times is that we project our own human emotions and senses of comfort onto our dogs when in reality they are completely different species with different needs.
