Fireworks, parades, and cookouts — the Fourth of July is a blast for us hoomans, but not always for our pets! 🐾

🎆 Loud booms + bright flashes can frighten pets, causing them to hide, panic, or even run away.

🌭 Picnic foods and party snacks might smell irresistible, but they can lead to upset tummies or pose health threats.

🌞 Summer heat, travel stress, and leftover firework debris add extra risks for our furry friends.

Whether you’re hosting an Indepawdence Day bash or keeping it low-key, our team at Vetique encourages you to take steps to keep your pets safe, calm, and comfortable — during and after the festivities.

To provide our staff with some much needed R&R and holiday time off with their loved ones, Vetique will be closed on Monday, 5.26. We will resume normal biz hours on Tuesday, 5.27 at 9 am. As much as we love our referral partners, here are some pet safety tips to avoid any late night trips to VEG or MedVet Chicago this weekend!

- BBQ Safety — Keep all kabobs, skewers, burgers, brats + baked potatoes at a safe distance from your pet’s reach. Time and time again we’re digging these out from somewhere within the gastrointestinal tract or treating severe cases of pancreatitis. 🍖

- Pool Supervision — Don’t leave pets unsupervised by a pool or lake. Also, prevent your pup from drinking pool water, which may contain harmful chemicals like chlorine. We also see a ton of Giardia cysts (the hardy infectious stage) that survive in Lake Michigan — just sayin’. 🦠

- Stay Hydrated! If you’re spending time outdoors with your furry babe, ensure he or she has access to plenty of water and shade from the sun. 💦☀️

- ID Tag + Microchip — Fireworks, loud music + large social gatherings may incite fear amongst many pets, increasing the risk escape. Ensure your pet has at least one form of identification — or better yet, both! 🧨
