🐾Today is National Check the Chip Day!🐾

Today is the perfect reminder that identification can help bring pets home.

Microchips are a permanent form of identification. They are about the size of a grain of rice and placed just beneath the skin. Unlike collars and tags, they can’t simply fall off or be removed. If your pet is ever lost and found by a shelter, rescue, or veterinary team, a microchip can help connect them back to you.

Adopting a shelter pet for clear the shelters month?
Make microchipping part of their “welcome home” checklist! Many shelter pets may already have a chip, so have it scanned and make sure the registration information is updated with your current phone number, email, and address. A microchip only works if the information connected to it is accurate.

Already have a microchipped pet? Today is a great day to:
•Have their microchip scanned
•Confirm the chip is registered
•Update your contact information
•Make sure their collar and ID tags are current

And remember: a microchip isn’t GPS, it doesn’t track your pet’s location. It provides a unique ID that can help identify them if they’re found.

Whether you’re celebrating by checking the chip on the pet you already love or giving a shelter pet a forever home, you’re taking an important step toward keeping pets safe and families together. 🐶🐱
