The Neighborhood Book Club wrapped up AAPI month with our discussion on Asian American is Not a Color by OiYan A. P**n ✨

We dug through our own perceptions of affirmative action - our understandings of it as well as our opinions - before and after reading the book. We also discussed several questions that the author so kindly shared with us, including how we navigate an increasingly politically polarized society, especially when family/friends hold views that you find problematic.

One of the most poignant notes that the author made is that racist violence against Asian Americans over the past 6 years is not new or isolated; it follows a pattern of discrimination and hatred that goes back decades. Additionally, she spoke of the need for cross-racial solidarity. Though Asian Americans have needs that are different from other minorities (and vice versa), our rights and safety are adjoined with that of others. We work better and stronger when we support each other.

For Pride Month, we will read All This Could Be Different by Sarah Thankan Mathews. We’ll meet on July 5th at 5PM at Crema Shop! 🏳️‍🌈

If your pup is constantly scratching, licking, or shaking their head, it might be more than just a quirky habit! As the weather warms up, we’re seeing more pets come in with allergy-related skin and ear issues. Seasonal allergies are especially common this time of year and can make pets miserable if left untreated.

Common signs of environmental allergies:

• Excessive paw licking
• Scratching behind the ears or under the arms
• Recurring ear infections
• Red, irritated, or itchy skin
• Scooting or excessive rear-end licking
• Runny eyes
• Frequent head shaking

Many pet parents assume their dog is just “cleaning themselves,” but unlike cats, dogs often lick their paws, legs, and belly because they’re itchy.

Environmental allergies can be triggered by things like pollen, grass, weeds, dust mites, and mold 🌱🦠 Left untreated, allergies can lead to secondary skin infections caused by bacteria or yeast, making your pet even more uncomfortable.

If you’ve noticed your dog scratching more than usual, schedule an exam so we can help get to the root of the problem!

At your visit, we’ll discuss your pet’s symptoms, perform a thorough exam, and look for signs of irritation or infection. Depending on what we find, we may recommend diagnostic testing, allergy management strategies, anti-itch medications, prescription shampoos, dietary changes, or other treatments to help keep your pet comfortable.

While allergies can’t be cured, they can be successfully managed with the right treatment plan 🐶❤️
