UPDATE: VERA (the pup) HAS BEEN FOUND!!

Someone saw one of our flyers in the morning and later in the day saw Vera! She was in a children's school playground not far from where she got out. An employee called, and she with a few others were able to stay with Vera and keep eyes on her to make sure she didn't run off until we got there.

THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who helped, Shared, and sent positive thoughts. Thank you to Suzanne Day, her Foster Mom, for printing and posting the flyers I created. And a HUGE THANK YOU to Danielle Kruse for being in the area to go get her! 💕💜💕

When Danielle told me in the morning that she could help, I had no idea that she canceled her appts for the DAY to drive & walk around the neighborhood! She had just picked up her own dogs (maybe Vera would be curious and less nervous with a small dog present) and a friend, and she was on her way back to search the area again when I received the call Vera was found. No one else was available at that time. Who knows what would have happened had Danielle not been right there 10 mins away to scoop her up. ❤️❤️❤️

Most people do not realize what goes on behind the scenes and how involved it can be to ensure all the necessary, time-sensitive steps are taken to initiate searches for lost furry family members.

You need to create the flyers, notify the microchip company, physically post the flyers all over the neighborhood, create the online alerts with Lost Pet Recovery organizations, and post on Social Media.

(Not to mention deal with disgusting, scum of the Earth losers who text that they found Vera but want money to prove you are the owner 🤬)

We were so lucky to have had several Volunteers and Supporters taking time out of their busy schedules to drive & walk around the neighborhood looking for Vera.

I believe everyone's hard work and love contributed to finding Vera. And I am grateful beyond words to every single person who helped. ❤️🙏❤️

Our absolutely precious little Vera slipped under the gate of her Foster Mom's backyard. She is supposed to go to her Forever Family tomorrow! 💔

Vera is a "puppy mill dog" and is still very skittish. We have been working with her for the past few months and she has made such beautiful progress! From not wanting to come out of her crate to peeking around a corner into a room and running back to her crate to sitting on a lap - tentatively at first but then you actually feel her darling little body relax into you. UGH! Her sweet baby-steps-of-progress have been so celebrated. We are incredibly distraught over this!

Vera was last seen at 3224 Sacramemto Avenue (Sacramemto & School - Avondale Neighborhood) in Chicago on Tuesday, 16 May-23 at 840a.

We are posting flyers and driving/walking around the neighborhood and expanding the search.

Please TEXT or CALL the posted numbers if you see her.

Do not chase her. She will run.

If you can help look for her, bring soft snacks (deli meat).

Do you know why Marty is smiling...?

Because he knows how irresistible he is,
he knows his Foster Dad's leg is asleep,
he knows his Foster Dad is dying to get up,
BUT
he also knows his Foster Dad is looking at his sweet, little angelic face and doesn't want to disturb him even though he knows the agony he will be in when Marty finally moves and allows him to crawl up from that position and proceed to limp for 30 minutes until he walks it off. 😇

Anyone else been there?!? 😆

MEET APOLLO HELIOS!

Isn't he handsome?!? Apollo is a 5-year-old, male, 11 lb, DSH orange tabby. He is an absolute LOVE and cannot wait to find his Forever Family!

Apollo Helios loves head scratches and will boop you into oblivion to get more of them! 😊 And he purrs like a jet engine! Apollo loves to be near his Foster Moms and is a wonderful companion. He practices kung fu fighting on his soft mice and kicker toys, and he knows the rejuvenating benefits of taking a much-needed nap in a sunny spot. Ahhhh!

Apollo was dumped at a home in a rural community last October. The woman cares for feral kitties and has shelters for them in her yard, but she said he would never go inside. Apollo was very sweet and friendly, but she could not bring him inside because he was not neutered and she had two female kitties that are not spayed.

One day, freezing rain was pouring down and she looked outside her window. There he sat. In the middle of her front yard. In the rain. Staring at the house. She felt so bad for him that she ran outside and brought him in. Unfortunately, she did not have anywhere to keep him separated from her cats, so the majority of the time he was in a cage in her basement - for almost a year! ☹️ She did the best she could and reached out to Rescues for help, but everyone is full. Recently, one of her co-workers was trying to convince her to give Apollo to him, and he would drop him off at a farm! One of our Fosters who lives in that area found out about him. When we heard his story, it melted our hearts, and specifically the hearts of a wonderful couple who Fosters for us. They usually take on short-term / emergencies, but they were so moved by Apollo's story that they committed to fostering him for as long as it takes to find his Forever Family! So, we took this orange lump of love in and started him on his journey to health and safety - never to be abandoned again.❤️

Apollo now looks amazing! TLC, nutritious food, and the secure feeling of safety does wonders! When we got him, his fur was drab, he was covered in fleas, he was depressed, had a minimal appetite - he looked like he was giving up on life. NOW, he has bright eyes and a bright coat, is playful and super happy, and is absolutely LOVIN' LIFE! 😁

ADOPT DIXIE CUP!

She is the SWEETEST, most precious little girl in the world!! Dixie is about 3 years old, 11 lbs, is possibly a Corgi mix (just a guess) and is just a LOVE! She is easy on a leash, snuggly (sleeps under the covers for a bit until she gets hot 😁), great with other dogs, and very submissive. We believe she was used as a breeder dog OR whoever had her was incredibly careless because there is evidence that she has had multiple litters, and we also feel she was abused in some way. Raised voices make her very sad and she goes belly up. Breaks! Your! Heart! 💔

Just look at that little baby-cow face with her little underbite and those ears! She is super fun, LOVES squeaky toys, LOVES walks, LOVES treats, and LOVES snuggling. Dixie is a big kisser, so be prepared! 😄

This little girl does have some initial separation anxiety and can be a barker, so she needs a home with another dog and must live in a single-family home (no apartments, townhouses, etc.). Once she is used to her new environment, she is fine and will randomly bark at the squirrels outside trying to supervise where they bury their nuts in her yard.
