Training for hours everyday sounds exhausting 😴 for you and your dog

When you look at actual learning tho....

Your dog is only absorbing a small bit of that due to being tired.

It's like being in school all day long. Do you remember every word from your Spanish 101 class? No.

🍝 But what you actually need is to make dinner without your dog flipping out

👽 Go on a walk that doesn't make you feel like an alien on a new planet

🛀 Take a shower in peace

That's what I focus on in my training

A little Cricket training update! 🐾

After his surgery, Cricket decided he had apparently forgotten how leashes work. 😂 So we've been going back to basics and working on his loose leash walking again.

It was HOT today, so we kept our walk short but he did so good!

Sometimes a successful 10 minute walk is way more valuable than pushing through a long one just because you planned to.

It's totally ok if your dog needs a little refresher, going back a step, and building those skills back up is all part of training.

You don't have to teach the whole trick at once. 🧠

When Cricket is learning something new, I like to break it down into tiny pieces and reward the behaviors I want.

For this one, we're working toward retrieving an object.

Right now that means:

Pick it up ✅
Interact with it ✅
Bring it toward me ✅

Eventually we'll put all those pieces together and have a full retrieve.

And yes... the object is a water gun. 😂

Could it have been a toy? Absolutely.

Did Cricket care? Not even a little.

This is why I love trick training. It's not just about having a dog who can do cute tricks it gives them a chance to think, problem solve, and learn how learning works.
