In Memory of Cooper
Cooper a Goldendoodle was brought to AWL as a stray back in April of 2019. He was scared, not well cared for and in need of a haircut. The staff at AWL worked with him and taught him to trust again. He eventually went up for adoption. Suddenly we became flooded with an extreme amount of calls and walk-ins. He was the hottest and most sought after dog in the building. Everyone wanted Cooper! He became the most popular dog in the shelter. We even had a woman drive in from another state, sneak in the back and tried to steal him for herself. While going thru tons and tons of applications, we were approached by a nice lady named Sue. She seemed genuine and sincere. We interviewed her and the family. The decision had been made. We adopted the Doodle to the lady and her wonderful family.
Cooper went home and received a professional haircut. His new life had begun and he was treated like Royalty. He had a Mom, Dad and Brother. He adjusted well to his new home. We received photos and updates along the way. He even became a big brother to other Animal Welfare pets. Cooper loved playing in his backyard and cookouts with the family. He was no longer the shaggy stray dog. He went to the groomer regularly for spa days, loved car rides and his favorite food was French fries from Burger King. Cooper was a Mama’s boy and became her soulmate. They became so close that both knew what the other was thinking without saying a word. Size did not seem to matter and Cooper would lay in the bed every night and always had to be touching his Mom and Dad. Recently he went to the vet for a routine check up. Unfortunately, the vet suspected a tumor in his abdomen and an ultrasound was required. While his parents were in the process of scheduling the ultrasound, Cooper suddenly became gravely ill within a matter of hours. His was immediately rushed to the emergency vet and diagnosed with a ruptured cancerous mass on his spleen. The vet was very kind and explained everything as gentle as possible to the family. Out of love and compassion, the family had to make the tough decision and Cooper crossed over to the rainbow bridge that night. We would like to thank the family for providing such a loving home to a sweet dog. Cooper you will always remain in our hearts!
