A little late-night honesty from Dr. Scofield. ❤️

Chestertown Animal Hospital is growing and that’s a really good thing.

We’ve worked incredibly hard to bring exceptional doctors to our team who share the same commitment to thoughtful, high-quality veterinary medicine that you’ve come to expect from us.

Dr. Scofield and Dr. Stevens aren’t going anywhere. But providing the best care for our patients and building a veterinary team that can continue doing this work well for years to come, means sharing that care with doctors we know, trust and are genuinely excited to have beside us.

So when our team offers you an appointment with one of our new doctors, please say yes. Come meet them. Let us introduce you. Give them the opportunity to care for your pet.

We think you’re going to love them as much as we do. ❤️

And perhaps most importantly: adding these doctors means more appointment availability, more access to high-quality veterinary care right here in Chestertown, and a stronger team for our community.

We can’t wait for you to meet them. 💙🐾

Big news at Chestertown Animal Hospital! 🐾

We are so excited to share that two new doctors have joined our practice! This growth means more appointment availability, expanded access to care, and additional support for Dr. Scofield and Dr. Stevens as we continue caring for the pets and families of our community.

First, please help us welcome Dr. Samantha Receski! 💙

Dr. Receski was born and raised right here on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. She attended Penn State University, where she studied Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, before earning her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2019 with a focus in mixed animal medicine.

Since graduating, she has worked in small animal practice and especially enjoys caring for cats and dogs.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Receski loves spending time with her husband, son, family and friends. You’ll often find her outdoors, traveling, fishing, enjoying water sports, or taking any opportunity she can to get out on the water.

Please help us give Dr. Receski a very warm welcome! 🐶🐱

And stay tuned!!! We have one more new doctor to introduce very soon! 👀

Please join us in welcoming Summer Blazejak, Practice Manager at Chestertown Animal Hospital! 🐾❤️

Summer has been part of the veterinary profession since 2009, bringing experience from nearly every side of veterinary medicine — from the front desk and hands-on patient care to practice management, emergency medicine, advanced care, and veterinary industry leadership.

But what she’s most passionate about is the people behind veterinary medicine. Summer loves building strong teams, creating a great experience for clients, and supporting pet families through all the joyful — and sometimes difficult — seasons of loving an animal.

With certifications in veterinary business leadership, compassion fatigue, and veterinary business management, along with training in Mental Health First Aid and pet loss grief coaching, she brings an incredible combination of experience and compassion to our team.

Originally from Middletown, Delaware, Summer has called Kent County home for the past 23 years. She and her high school sweetheart-turned-husband have built a life here filled with family, dogs, and plenty of four-legged chaos. 🐶

We’re so excited to have Summer at CAH and can’t wait for you to get to know her. Help us give her a warm welcome! 👋🐾

LOOK WHO’S BACK! ❤️🐾

Some familiar faces will be back at Chestertown Animal Hospital!

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Shaw & Dr. Jones back to CAH as relief veterinarians for some upcoming dates!
We know many of you (and your pets) already know and love them, and we’re so happy to have them spending some time with us again.

Familiar faces. Trusted care. Happy pets.

Before she was caring for your pets, she was just a girl loving animals of her own ❤️🩺

A microchip is tiny. The role it can play in getting your pet back? HUGE. 🐾

Dr. Scofield shares a wild story from a veterinary colleague in Colorado: a dog needed surgery for a broken leg, and the owner started a GoFundMe that went viral. That’s when a man in Ohio saw the dog and recognized him.

It was his dog—who had gone missing after a car accident three years earlier.

Stories like this are exactly why we recommend microchipping your pets AND keeping your contact information up-to-date. A microchip can only help reunite you with your pet if the registration attached to it is current.

📲 Not sure where your pet’s microchip is registered? Visit petmicrochiplookup.org to look up the microchip number and find the registry associated with it. From there, you can make sure your contact information is current.

Moved? Changed your phone number or email? Is your ex boyfriend listed as the contact? Consider this your reminder to check it today. ❤️

And if your pet isn’t microchipped yet, ask us about it at your next visit!

Turns out, some dogs just really like a good salad. 🌱🐶

Dogs may eat grass simply because they like the taste and texture—especially fresh, tender grass. It can also add a little fiber and roughage to their diet, and for some dogs, grazing is just a normal, instinctive behavior.

And despite the old belief, eating grass doesn’t automatically mean your dog has an upset stomach or is trying to make themselves throw up.

Does your dog make a beeline for the grass when they go outside?
