Garden State Sugar Gliders - NJ

I am a veterinary technician and breeder of lineaged sugar gliders. Located in Burlington County, New Jersey. Garden State Sugar Gliders LLC; est. 2024.

I am breeder of sugar gliders. With that comes a lot of responsibility to ensure that only healthy and proper specimens are utilized in breeding projects. As a result, all of my breeding pairs of sugar gliders are lineaged to prevent inbreeding, be aware of heterozygous genes, etc. Due to the reality that sugar gliders are obtained through shipping and transportation and the community being relatively small, obtaining two sugar gliders from various states does not ensure they are not related providing unnecessary and easily mitigable risk of inbreeding and the consequences of that. I also have my sugar gliders evaluated by a residency trained exotics specialist veterinarian- part of the routine is fecal testing (ensure there are no intestinal parasites) and a thorough exam. The next standard set in this breeding project is necropsy of deceased sugar gliders- this helps provide insight into cause of death and helps to ensure that there are no signs of infectious or genetic complications as contributing causes which I have not had occur. All of the sugar gliders are on BML, with joeys (baby sugar gliders) introduced prior to leaving their parents. Minimum age for a joey to their new home is 10 to 12 weeks old- this ensures proper weaning from their mother, with the ability to learn the structure of a colony, glider-to-glider interaction, and socialization. The goal of any good, ethical breeding project is the advancement of breed of species you are working with while breeding for good behavior, healthy genes, etc and actively trying to act against undesirable traits, congenital or genetic diseases/abnormalities, etc- this is the goal of Garden State Sugar Gliders LLC.

These precious little joeys are from Zoya & Volt. We’re so excited to watch them grow and see their personalities develop! They are both males; the one on the left is mosaic and on the right, leucistic. Back to their parents they now go and in a couple weeks, we will get some better photos of them and start socializing with them.✨🥰

What is a “True Abby Curly” sugar glider?

Meet Minerva, our True Abby Curly (TAC) sugar glider.

True Abby Curly is a relatively new & emerging genetic line of sugar gliders known for their incredibly unique and distinctive curly coat texture. Unlike the traits such as standard grey, leucistic, mosaic, creamino, etc that are identified as a trait of coloration, TAC is a coat texture trait and can vary from parent to baby. This means that regardless of how curly a parent is, each baby has a chance to be less, the same, or even more curly.

With the line still being relatively new (first identified in 2018), the available genetic pool is limited. This means that very careful and responsible breeding is even more important. As lineaged sugar glider breeders, we take special precautions when planning pairings, with the health, genetic diversity, and long-term well-being of the animals & their line always at the center of our breeding program.

What makes Minerva even more unique is that, in addition to being TAC, she is also True Platinum Mosaic (TPM). This gives her beautifully textured coat its stunning, shimmering coloration making her truly one of a kind. 🤍
