Why teach your dog hand signals? 🐾
Dogs are incredibly good at reading body language, and pairing verbal commands with hand signals gives them another way to understand what you’re asking.

Hand signals are especially useful when it’s too loud for your dog to hear you, when they’re farther away, or as they get older and their hearing begins to decline.

Teaching both from the beginning creates clearer communication and gives you a backup when your voice isn’t enough. 🐕‍🦺🤍

One command. Two ways to communicate.

As you can see Jax understood the assignment. 😎🐾

Realistic Expectations With Your Dog
Children go to school from September through June, five days a week, and at the end of the year, they’re still in the same grade. They don’t become engineers in six months!

Yet our dogs often get five lessons or a couple of weeks of board-and-train, and we expect them to be ready to make a Hollywood movie.

What’s wrong?

Nothing!

Dogs, just like people, need time to learn. Becoming reliable off-leash, at a distance, and around distractions can take months of consistent training with some dogs. In fact, that’s more the norm than the exception.

Think of it this way: a two-year investment of your time for a ten-year return is a pretty good investment.

Be patient. Help your dog succeed. Teach more than you test. Keep a positive attitude, and give your dog the time and repetition needed to truly understand what you’re asking.

With patience, consistency, and a positive approach, your dog will come along just fine.

Before you know it, you’ll have a reliable, predictable, and enjoyable companion—and a relationship that will last for years to come.
